A Home That Never Was
To Escape a House of Shadows

*Older Sister:*
I once dreamed of a home, a haven, a place,
But these walls whisper lies, void of grace.
“This is not yours,” they chant in cold refrain,
A layover, a prelude, to future pain.
I pack books and courage, a scholarship's key,
But I tremble, for her, who’s left here, not free.
*Younger Sister:*
They say this house is not my own,
Its roots deep, but none for me sown.
I clean, I toil, my hands worn thin,
Yet I’m invisible, like I’ve never been.
A brother raised with a crown on his brow,
Speaks of hate; his words break me now.
*Older Sister:*
He was fed the lie as truth, the script,
Taught to conquer, his entitlement equipped.
He mocks us, he hates us, his temper a storm,
I fear the day his rage takes a physical form.
I plan my escape, but my heart is torn,
How can I leave her where love is forlorn?
*Younger Sister:*
Her plans bring hope, yet my soul feels tight,
For I’m chained to despair, no end in sight.
No scholarship gleams, no job calls my name,
I am stuck in the shadow of his burning flame.
My thoughts grow dark; the edge feels near,
But her dreams of freedom pull me clear.
*Older Sister:*
Stay strong, I beg, though it’s easier said,
The universe listens, even when it feels dead.
We’ll leave together, I promise you this,
There’s a life waiting, beyond this abyss.
*Younger Sister:*
But where do we go when doors are closed?
When the path ahead feels so indisposed?
Still, I pray to stars that barely gleam,
Hoping for more than this relentless dream.
*Older Sister:*
Our prayers entwine, a desperate plea,
For safety, for dignity, for a chance to be free.
I will fight for you, for us, for escape,
From this ticking bomb, this toxic landscape.
*Younger Sister:*
If we leave, will the world finally hear?
Will our lives bloom far from this fear?
Together we’ll run, I trust your lead,
The universe may listen if we plant this seed.
*Both Sisters:*
No home in these walls, no solace, no peace,
But together we’ll forge a life, a release.
From the chains of disdain, the shadows of pain,
A brighter tomorrow, a new refrain.
The universe may oppose, but we are strong,
In sisterhood’s bond, we’ll right this wrong.
