A Heart That Was Broken
Even a bad relationship can be good for you
That special feeling of a connection
The initial excitement and wonder,
Heart skipping a beat, filled with awe
That’s love that you’ve fallen under.

A few written innuendos just for you
Leaves you questioning the spark,
Are we reading too much into this bliss
Or has Cupid’s arrow hit its mark?

You go with the flow, albeit with doubt
To find your interest returned, for now,
You open yourself up, maybe foolishly
Sure it’ll be different, you silently vow.

A few months down the slippery track
And you see their true colours at last,
Promises broken, you’ve been a fool
You’re relegated to their distant past.
***
Oh, they tease with a word or even two
Before they disappear in total silence,
Learnt the hard way, but learn you did
Found resilience and removed reliance.
***
Yes, it may have only lasted a minute
Discovering you could love once more,
They disappeared, that’s really okay
You are happier than you were before.
***
You felt the pain and smiled anyway
As you learned who you really are,
Discovering what you didn’t want
Girl, you survived, you come so far!
