A Guide for Vanishing

A peom

By ZIA UDDINPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

*Step One: Unname Yourself**

Whisper your name into a jar of wind.

Seal it tight. Bury it

beneath the roots of a nameless tree.

Let the ants forget you.

---

**Step Two: Leave No Echo**

Speak only to the rain,

and only when it’s loud.

Let your words slip

between thunder and forgetting.

---

**Step Three: Unwrite Your Steps**

Walk backwards through your memories.

Where you once stood,

scatter feathers.

Where you wept,

plant silence.

---

**Step Four: Abandon Shadows**

Do not move when the moon calls.

Burn every mirror.

Stand so still

the dusk passes through you

without flinching.

---

**Step Five: Learn the Language of Fog**

Say yes in mist.

Say no in frost.

Let your breath be the last thing

to remember you.

---

**Step Six: Become Something Else**

A rustle.

A chill.

A flicker in the corner of an eye.

You are not gone.

You are just not *here*.

---

**Final Step: Do Not Return**

Even if they call.

Even if they say

they miss you,

mean it.

Some vanishings are sacred.

Some goodbyes are spells.
