A grandmothers love
Stories my mam would tell me about her grandmother

A Grandmother's Love
Sat by the window, looking out at the rain,
She carried the weight of so much pain.
With thirteen children, her hands were full,
While Grandad toiled down in the pit so cruel.
No central heating in those days, so rough,
No money for coal, just blankets enough.
Layered on beds, coats draped for the cold,
Her strength and her love were the warmth we could hold.
Life was a struggle; her heart was so kind,
She gave all her love, never falling behind.
One day, the children were given a puppy,
But she knew she couldn’t feed him; her heart felt so heavy.
Though the children were joyful, their hearts filled with cheer,
She had to send him back, saying he can’t stay here.
Her sadness was deep as she watched their hearts break,
Protecting her children, her love was at stake.
With no TV for joy, they’d play “I Spy,”
Filling their home with laughter, as the days went by.
She taught them what mattered, what’s right and what’s true,
Singing loud as she cleaned, with love always in view.
Even though she left us, her spirit stays bright,
In the lessons she shared and the memories of light.
Though life took its toll, and she left us too soon,
Her love echoes on like a sweet, gentle tune.
In stories passed down, her warmth lingers near,
For a grandmother’s heart keeps the family dear.
