A Glimpse of Us

I have heard a lot about how a man never truly recovers from the loss of his first love.

That anytime he looks into someone else’s eyes, he sees a glimpse of us.

And I may be naive for this but I hope he does

I hope when he looks at another woman he thinks of us and how beautiful we were together.

But I wish no pain for the woman. He should do no damage to her because of his love for me

She does not deserve to be settled for but rather I hope when he looks at her and he thinks of me…

He thinks of all the ways I taught him to be better for me

He thinks of all of the ways he ripped my heart from my chest

He thinks of the crazy beautiful life we could have had together

And he applies them to her.

I hope he learns from us and while yes still mourns the loss of our love

I hope he makes her feel like the most special girl in the entire world

It was too late for us but it’s not for her

I hope he does for her what he was never able to do for me…

Because of me.
