A Father's Search for His Legacy
Dedicated to Patty, Catherine, and Mary

From shadows born of want and need,
He sowed his dreams through toil and creed.
No silver spoon, no guiding hand,
Just will and faith to help him stand.
Through weary nights, with eyes of flame,
He chased degrees, endured the strain.
His eldest watched the moments fade,
While books and burdens took his days.
For younger hearts, he left again,
To build a life through storms and rain.
Each mile apart, each tear he knew,
Was mortar for the path they’d hew.
Now twilight hums a softened tone,
Regret and pride both claim their own.
He missed the laughter, bedtime song,
Yet built their wings to make them strong.
One writes the laws, one earns acclaim,
Another’s studies bear his name.
Their roots were poor, their reach now wide—
He built their world from the outside.
He gave not time in full supply,
But gifts that taught their souls to fly.
His love was work, his proof sincere—
A legacy that conquers fear.

What a beautifully heartfelt tribute, it captures that quiet kind of love that’s shown through sacrifice rather than words.
