A EULOGY OF MEMORIES

sounds like the name of some

midwest emo band from columbus

and I’m nineteen again waking up

an hour before everyone else to

put concealer all over my face —

sure I know they’re not worried

about the state of my skin but

it makes it easier to look them

in the eye and if you turn to

the west you’ll see the playground

of my elementary school where

I saw the word fuck written out

for the first time and someone (it

might have been me) busted their

lip on the railing from swinging

on their feet trusting the air

to catch them — it never does —

so here we are

    I loved this! Wonderful rhythm and the way it ended perfectly capped the tone of the entire poem.
