A Deal With Her Demons
As she attempts to keep her sanity

She awakens each morning feeling like her head is lost in the clouds
As if she has one foot in today’s world and the other in the hereafter,
She is unsure of where she would prefer to spend the rest of her day
In this world of pain and sorrow or tomorrow’s sunshine and laughter.
***
She spends her day trying to escape to the horizon of her future world
As she is chased by her past and her demons she encountered there,
Try as she might not to look into the terror that is racing to capture her
She blindly stumbles off her chosen path, falling into a world of despair.
***
She attempts to climb higher, looking for her lost and forgotten dreams
Knowing she’ll never make it, as she is competing in a race against time,
But she refuses to concede defeat, for it is imperative that she succeeds
If she is ever to find a modicum of peace outside this unstable paradigm.
***
Her day has stalled as she is pushed towards her greatest nightmare
Catching a glimpse of her demons and ghouls that are patiently waiting,
She experiences the notion of being on life’s never ending treadmill
Catapulting her into the horror of horrors, that her demons are creating.
***
Her freedom is a story already published, but one which she’s now lost
Regret that she was not more accepting of her destiny, her chosen fate,
Her memories are torn from within, scattered to the winds of madness
Her sanity barely hanging on, because she knows it will soon be too late.
***
Now she has her toughest choice barring her way, her world, her dreams
And she no longer knows if she is a willing participant or is she totally insane,
This game, if that is what it is, has weakened her nature and her strength
So she holds tight, knowing between her and death is a thinning membrane.
***
She sits, her head hanging low, as she ponders her next move in this match
For she knows this is her final play, her last chance at acceptance or change,
It’s in the now that she needs to be the smartest, if she is to come out on top
Forcing a deal on her demons, return to her past and she’d visit in exchange.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I could feel the feeling of helplessness and devastation in your words. Very emotional poem. I loved it my friend!
