A Daniel Caesar Song

A poem that feels like a Daniel Caesar song

Did you change or was it me?

I noticed the wrinkles by your eyes yesterday when you laughed softly at your phone.

Your eyes used to hold me,

Hold me, neck high, a few inches above the ground.

Now you look past me,

Like the see through panties you got me years ago when we thought we would rule the world.

Times you held my hand and we walked the same path.

It feels like we stopped walking the journey together a while ago.

But you’re here beside me on this couch

Or are you not?

~~~~~~~~~~.~~~~~~~~~~
Did you change or was it me?
There used to be days where being with you felt like I was one of the sirens singing in a Daniel Caesar song.
Our skins don’t know each other anymore,
Skins that used to burn like fire,
Fire that water could never quench.
Is it winter everyday or is it just me?
My last summer was years ago.
The light then was blinding,
Our smiles were deafening,
My heart always hurt from happiness,
Now it just hurts, nothing else.
You’re the person that said forever
Or are you not?
