A Coupling Rhyming Gem With Twists
The Workshop Collection

In my early twenties I thought
This world could be bought
Using the magical dollar
Stuffy under the collar
Where am I going to go?
What do I know?
Interview inquisitions
Stalking an entry position
Honestly presented my cards
Realizing life is hard
Having the professional perfect look
As described in the corporate training book
Commanding the floor
Receptionist guarding the door
Today the scene has changed
I am not going to complain
Youth google their mind
Displayed modern image in my world would certainly get declined
As I struggle through another day
Watching what I say
I accept the generational divide
Realizing where did I lie
To anyone
Receiving the hand gesture ‘welcome’
Is life done?
I ask
Not wearing the hypocritical mask
Ending with the swig from the trusty flask
Truth be told
And may I act bold
About a relationship I once had
Did not lead to being a dad
Maybe a college grad
You see it was with an exhibiting pet
Who I will never forget
A lifelong competitive love
Peacefully we flew like a dove
Partner guiding me over many things
Riding on their wings
Learning the right way to communicate
Getting things straight
Facing a designed test
Trying our best
Over fences or on the flat
Sixty seconds I sat
Afterwards applauding effort with a grateful pat
When the ribbons came out
I sit tall, really stout
Appearing great together
My saddle shining its leather
Taking the class blue
Winning results really cool
Today I stare at the award
Hanging on the tack room door
Reminds me when we were adored
Under the spotlight horse show stage floor
My friend is now gone
Buried in the pasture lawn
But our memories still can be seen
Downloaded and watched upon the you tube screen
