A Complex Tapestry of Ambivalence:
Money is an elusive concept. It is believed to drive our economies and the decisions of many, but can also be the root of contention, pain and suffering. It is no surprise then, that money has been the source of much conflict, both internally and between nations. This poem strives to encapsulate the complexity and ambivalence of money and the myriad of emotions and opinions it engenders.
Money, a wretched force of ill,
Brought to both bliss and great thrill.
A complex tapestry of ambivalence,
On which outcomes are never certain and intense.
It angers us, gives us bliss,
Can lift us up and drive us to zero.
It makes some hesitate and some take a chance,
And fabricates in us the appetite to glance.
Money has the power to form and destroy,
Bring nurture and death with equal joy.
It often serves as bridge or a wall,
And continues to impact us all.
It controls not just our economic state,
But also engenders fear and hate.
It can make us a slave or drive us to rebellion,
Lead us to despair or great elation.
Money, money, how do we mediate,
The power that you like to create?
Oh sweet money, what have you done,
to our society and its relation to fun?
About the Creator
Dharu
Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self doubt.
