A Child

by Mel

By 'Lissa StufflestreetPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

She's a child; dreaming of ponies and rainbows, imagining a life where she's the prettiest princess of them all.

She's a child; thinking of all the memories she'll create when she's older, listing all the things she'll check off once she's grown.

She's a child; counting sheep as she dozes off to sleep, preparing for what's to come the morning after.

She's a child; curled up in the corner of her room, laying broken as tears rolled down her cheeks. Wondering what it was she's done to make him want her so bad. Wondering what it was she did that made him want to play that game with her. She's just a child; hugging her knees to her chest, crying as she longed for that small scab of innocence back.

The small scab, that,

no matter many times she denies it,

is forever gone.
