A Cadence of God

A poem

By Shannon E. MackPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

Frozen.

Drowning.

Sinking.

I couldn’t move from this place

Below the sky.

Before consciousness.

The space between stars.

Water falling endlessly

Against my skin.

I slowly lived.

An ember.

Barely burning.

And in the cascading heavens.

It came.

A cadence of god.

A boisterous laugh from above.

It struck.

True and beautiful.

Thawing.

Swimming.

Rising.

I didn’t scream when it took my body.
