A Bucket of Flowers

A Poem

By Jay WilsonPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

Two nervous souls

Deep in love

The risk so great

Surrounded by hate

Two lovers together

Finally at last

Two different lives

Now in the past

A cheap flat

Crumbling and in ruins

It was all they had

No bachelor pad

The roof was leaking

The carpet bare

The kitchen crooked

The pipes were peaking

The lovers remained

Happy as can be

Nothing could change

What they could see

They were together

At last

What could be better

Even if the floor was wetter

The life was simple

Nothing too grand

Stumbling along

Hand in hand

And argument raged

Like between any usual couple

Over nothing important

Their love not in trouble

The emotions were sad

They hated to fight

Life was so great

No end in sight

He got her flowers

For the first time ever

They talked it out

Breaking up is never

Their cheap little home

Had no fancy vase

Not even a jar

To put the flowers

In the corner

A big red bucket

Used for mopping

And catching the leaking

On the counter

A bucket of flowers

Beautiful and bright

Truly the end of such a petty fight

Their lives went on

Happy and simple

Loving together

Harsh words long gone

The long road

To their life

Is far from over

The flowers in the bucket

And gentle reminder

love poems
