A place where he can be at peace.
Free from the tyranny of the police.
A place to escape his reality.
Free to cry and not feel weak.
A place to break his silence and finally speak.
Free from everybody’s critiques.
A black man’s sanctuary.
A place to be proud of his skin.
Free from society’s teachings to hate himself from within.
A place where he can be viewed as a person and not a threat.
Free to allow his emotions to show and not feel regret.
A black man’s sanctuary.
A place where he isn’t stressed.
Free from the world, who says he can’t be depressed
And after hundreds of years, he is no longer oppressed.
Unfortunately, a black man’s sanctuary doesn’t exist,
But yet people still insist
That the black man is free to be himself,
Unapologetically.
Yet, the black man knows,
People are only speaking
Hypothetically!
