A Benediction

My dancing girl,

My star-marked child,

With waves in your blood,

And your hair flowing wild.

/

As you leave home and choose the water,

Heed my words, my stubborn daughter:

Keep your compass in your hand,

Rule your mind with an iron band.

/

Embrace the sea-breeze quietude,

With far horizons sunset-hue’d.

You’re carving paths far from your home,

And this expanse you’ll tame alone.

/

Chase the myths from time beyond reckoning,

Follow where the waves are beckoning.

Keep your canvas mended and dry,

There’s land near where the seagull glides.

/

Wake every morning the tranquil sun’s heralding,

And live every moment as though it’s worth inheriting.

Bring heed to no night-noise or siren’s sweet charm,

And never return open grace with cruel harm.

/

Don’t trust what’s beneath the expanse of the sea,

And watch for the storms that the clouds will decree.

Search for the glorious sights of the world.

Feel the pull of the wind when your sails are unfurled.

/

Accept always the hand of a steady, true friend.

And see all your promises through to the end.

Keep your eyes sharp and your nowhere-heart free,

And someday, my love, let it guide back to me.

Absolutely beautiful and riveting! I love the usage of these words in crafting a narrative. It was easy to follow, incredibly intriguing, and the use of words that aren't exactly easy to rhyme (like quietude and sunset-hue'd) truly astonished! Beautiful! [3/5]

I so loved your motherly advice! Beautiful

  • This is without a doubt my favourite of those I’ve read so far. Wow. The opening stanzas were giving me goosebumps… and I loved the wisdom sewn in at the end 🤍✨ I thought I was going overboard with using 30, so I’m very happy to see you used even more! Well done 👏🌟✨♥️

So many words used again. Great advice to a child/adult leaving home. Always best to see the best in everything, but also look for the serpent waiting to deceive.

Enjoyed this creation so much. This line is pure inspiration: "live every moment as though it’s worth inheriting."
