I am not invited to the party

Fireworks light the sky while I close my eyes

Smoke hangs in the air when I wake

Aftermath of the festivities

Broken glass

Wine stains

A good pirate passed out in the street

I walk through the maze of debris

Neon lights light my way while others sleep

The Moon still sleeps

The Sun is not yet awake

Basking before the veil of dawn

The work calls to me

An itch inside my mind and under my skin

No invitation needed

I really like the flow of this poem and the way you described the scenery.

This is excellent. Definitely captures a depth of solitude that I find difficult to articulate. Like underneath the loneliness there’s the bass and that rhythm sounds like comfort, maybe even peace. Beautiful poem.
