5 Business Days And Two Nights In The Club.
…inspired by John 6:9; Matthew 6:9-13

If His love is renewed every passing dawn,
Why is mine only occasionally after every five business days
and two nights in the club?
*
Sunday morning knocks on the door,
With sunken eyes for its allocated slot,
Battered from the unrequited love,
While I, unbothered, debate whether to say “YES”
and, just this once, give Him my all.
*
And I toss and turn.
My flesh ignores the call.
My spirit, silenced by the storm.
I do not know how to make it stop.
*
Booked and busy in capitalism’s regimen.
The Kingdom must not suffer lack,
So I offer my days as express pay
To end the suffering.
*
So there’s meat in His house.
Tithe envelopes overflowing and undented,
While Jesus sits alone,
Feet empty and unscented.
*
In our checkboxes, aesthetic, new age religion.
Raised by laws, kept in trends by judges.
Have we turned too woke to love?
*
Because maybe then we wouldn’t cherry-pick
The days for communion,
Or forsake the Sabbath’s roll call
In the name of abolishing “old religion.”
*
So God, here’s my offering:
A basket of thanksgiving, not murmuring.
A basket of Kingdom service over business vices.
*
A basket outstretched just to do His will.
Forsaking the basket of sins, I give it all to Him.
Give me just enough, so I don’t become
Bigger than belief.
*
I’ve taken more than I can repay.
Don’t hold me to the grave.
I’m gonna use it to make a name,
By giving back Your grace.
*
Forgive me for I’ve sinned again,
Lead me not to pain.
Let me seek You first,
In all of my days.
*
A basket of my days and nights…
It’s all for your praise.
