A 2 a.m. thought poem

By KPPublished 12 months ago 1 min read

Disenfranchised

Hopeless

Angry

It looks like a joke

But nobody's laughing

It must be a hoax

But everything's still happening

Lightning speed and can't keep up

Hourly changes, overflowing the cup

Calm down, it's not that serious

No one's coming for your rights

You're absolutely delirious

They are going to fix it

Make the system better

Yet so many people

Know fear to the letter

Don't let it consume you

You still have to continue

How hard is it to pretend

Your bigot neighbor is still your friend

They cheer and applaud

The actions of the fraud

Everything is fine, nothing of concern

We use history to entertain

But never ever learn

It's all hysteria and hype

There's no reason to fight

Just be quiet and watch what happens

Never mind the truth speakers have all been silenced

No honesty in the news

Only worried about the views

Impossible to parse what's actually the truth

It's contrary to what's always been taught

The entire country feeling fraught

Come together and build community

Put an end to impunity

And if that fails to bring about balance

The choice left is to turn to resistance
