Initially I wrote this poem for a contest, but since the submission date has passed and 2021 soon will too, I decided to post this here. I hope you enjoy.

What a wierd year was this, 2021

The vaccine race (long finished)

was by Pfizer won.

Yet despite our efforts,

the pandemic's STILL not done.

How strange will be the histories of January 6th

when friends and foes forget

the current political width?

Who on earth is Q?

Will we ever know?

When will my friends regain their sense

of what is fact or show?

Why is disinformation

so remarkably prevalent

that by the time time the fact check's done,

the work is now irrelevant?

Where in space are zillionaires

floating just for fun?

On who's backs were those zillions paid, oh 2021?

What work, with labor shortages,

could not this year be done?

How do we combat that mess

and still leave time for sun?

When will works of the year before

Cease it's rippling echoing.

Are we stuck forevermore

in 2020's shadow menacing?

Or did 2021 bring something new:

a glimpse of hope, a glimmering view,

of what mayhap may lay beyond

2022

surreal poetry
