It might not have been her first choice
But it wasn’t hard for her to choose
Everything in life for them to gain
Nothing left for her to lose
No one ever talked about how great she was
What’s understood doesn’t need to be said
Her shortcomings, mishaps, failures and flaws
She was judged for an recognized by instead
So we would ever be known how much she cared
About those two beautiful little girls
how she fell deep in love with a monster
And had to protect them from her world
So badly she wanted to be a part of theirs
But the timing just wasn’t quite right
If she ever wanted to see them again someday
Then she had to continue to fight
Being separated could’ve been the death of her
Though she always knew that it was best
Complete safety she cannot offer to them
She was broken; they were blessed
And all along she believed that it was her
That was doing them the favor
Not realizing that very same selfless act
Would be the one that would also save her
About the Creator
Brooke Wagner
I write and share inspiration recovery and addiction poetry hoping to help others who feel many of the ways that I’ve felt before. I’ve been writing for about 4 years and want to publish a book that would be donated to treatment centers.
