being alone isn't always a choice but ......rather a duty

a year from today she gave away two pieces of her heart

one piece to the ground below

the other piece to a close loved one who needed a restart

two pieces she gave away that no longer glow

Should she compare the day to the hottest California summers?

Despite the heat, she was surrounded by ice

Sweat leaving her body with tears transformed into runners

unable to compete with the ultimate price

Like the corpse she didn’t get to bury

She felt dead and empty

the pain is just too much to carry

looking to the sky questioning “God do you wish to tempt me?”

a year from today she felt alone in an unfamiliar land

today she walks alone forced to hold her own hand
