Can you tell us how you got started in photography? Looking back, is there anything you could have done to accelerate your learning process? Which skills were the most crucial to your development, and what obstacles did you encounter along the way?
Hello everyone! I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share my journey with you. It all started later in my 20s when I discovered my love for photography, proving that it’s never too late to learn something new. When COVID hit, I used the time to reflect on my true passions, and photography kept calling to me. One day, I took the plunge and bought a Nikon D810 from an eBay auction. That was the start of my self-taught path.
As I grew in skill, I felt inspired to start my own business, Musaweron, where I could share my love for photography and help others capture lasting memories. I don’t feel the need to rush my journey. Everything is unfolding at the right pace. Over time, I’ve learned a great deal about composition, lighting, and post-production, all of which have taken my work to new heights.
Composition, to me, is key to great photography. It includes techniques like leading lines and the rule of thirds, which help guide the viewer's eye and create balance in an image. Mastering composition turns a simple photo into a piece of art.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is managing lighting—too much or too little—because finding the right balance in ISO and aperture to highlight the subject is crucial, but it’s been a great learning experience.
Before we dive deeper into the conversation, could you tell our readers a little more about yourself for those who might not be familiar with you yet?
I was born in Seattle and raised in Kuwait, which gave me a unique cultural background. My father is Lebanese, and my mother is Tunisian, so creativity was always a big part of my upbringing. My love for the arts, particularly theatre, eventually led me to photography, and it’s been such a rewarding journey.
Today, I offer various photography services, including wedding, portrait, event, commercial, and food photography. Recently, I’ve focused on helping restaurants improve their food photography. Many places struggle to capture their menu items in a way that does them justice, and I’ve dedicated myself to solving that problem. Through my lens, I aim to turn ordinary food photos into a visual feast that entices customers.
One of my proudest moments was when I had the chance to collaborate with artists I deeply respect. Working with such talented individuals reinforced my belief that I’m on the right path, one full of inspiration and creativity.
My photography is about creating timeless images that will last for years, allowing people to relive their most cherished memories. I believe that through my work, I can help preserve moments that will be treasured by future generations.
What is the core mission behind your creative work?
My mission is to never stop learning and improving. I’m committed to growing my craft and never believing I’ve “mastered” it. Photography is an ongoing journey, and each project presents an opportunity to build on my knowledge and skills.
At the same time, I make sure to give each project the time and care it deserves. Whether it’s a wedding, a commercial shoot, or a personal portrait, I treat every project with the utmost respect and dedication.
What do you find most fulfilling about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is knowing that I’m part of moments that hold deep meaning in people's lives. What might feel like just another wedding for me is a once-in-a-lifetime event for my clients. My photography immortalizes moments filled with emotions, turning them into memories that will last forever.
Being part of these experiences—capturing them in a way that people can look back on for years—is what makes my work so special. It’s my mission to ensure that every image I create is a lasting tribute to that moment in time.
