Blending critique with pure fan energy, Illustrate Reacts redefines how audiences experience music journalism.

New York, NY — October 1, 2025 — Independent music publication Illustrate Magazine proudly introduces its newest video series, Illustrate Reacts, hosted by the magazine’s own Andre. The show offers an unfiltered look into today’s music scene through genuine, in-the-moment reactions and thoughtful insights.
Blending critique with pure fan energy, Illustrate Reacts redefines how audiences experience music journalism. Each episode follows Andre as he explores fresh releases, hidden gems, and boundary-pushing sounds — creating an immersive digital listening session where emotions, opinions, and artistry collide in real time.
“Reacting is more than just a first listen — it’s about letting others feel the music through you,” says Andre. “This show is for anyone who thrives on real conversations about music, where sincerity beats perfection.”
With an emphasis on inclusion, discovery, and honest dialogue, Illustrate Reacts celebrates both rising and established talent, inviting fans into an open space to connect over the sounds that move them — and sometimes surprise them.
The series marks Illustrate Magazine’s latest step in expanding its support for independent creativity and global music storytelling, merging the publication’s editorial depth with the spontaneity of fan-driven reaction culture.
Q&A: Andre on Illustrate Reacts and Music, Now
1. What made you start Illustrate Reacts, and how do you define it vs. a regular review or reaction video?
“I’ve seen too many ‘reaction’ formats become clickbait. With Illustrate Reacts, I want brevity, thought, and respect for the artist. It’s not a full review, but a spotlight — a first listen, a reading, a filter through what I care about. It’s reactive, but deliberate.”
2. How do you decide which tracks, moments, or artists to react to? What’s your selection logic?
“A mix of instinct, tip submissions from readers, and what looks like it’s about to break. Sometimes it’s a viral clip; sometimes it’s a sleeper from a niche subgenre no one’s talking about. I often ask: ‘Will this reward a re-listen?’ If yes, it’s in.”
3. Walk us through your process: from first listen to published React. Do you resist rewriting your first impression?
“Usually I set a 30-minute window: listen, note, let it breathe. Then I revisit for ideas. But I try not to overedit the visceral first reaction. The tension between initial gut and informed reflection is part of the charm. And I always try to link to the artist, clip or timestamp — I want the reader to hear what I heard.”
4. Illustrate Magazine is rooted in underground and experimental scenes — how does Illustrate Reacts serve that mission differently?
“Mainstream reactions already exist. My goal is to amplify voices that don’t have PR departments. If Reacts can send someone curious to a smaller artist — that feels real. Also, reacting to weird, ambitious music forces more interpretive reading. It’s not only about what’s ‘good’ — but what’s compelling, strange, necessary.”
5. Has there ever been a moment when you reversed your take after feedback or re-listening?
“Yes — a couple of times. One React I wrote had a dismissive angle; a few DMs from listeners challenged me, I dug deeper, and realized there was nuance I missed. So I updated the piece with an editor’s note. That willingness to revise — publicly — is part of being honest.”
6. What metrics or feedback matter to you? Are you chasing clicks, comments, DMs, or something more qualitative?
“I’m not chasing viral. Metrics help — saves, shares, time on page — but what I care most about are DMs from readers or artists: ‘You made me listen again’, ‘I discovered someone via you’. If it sparks that, I feel it’s working. Also, when people quote Reacts in other writeups, that’s a sign of echo.”
7. What’s next for Illustrate Reacts — collaborations, live formats, or spinoffs?
“I’d love guest Reacts (inviting artists or writers), maybe live listening sessions with chat, even a podcast spin where each episode riffs on 2–3 Reacts. Another idea: monthly recap React — not just singles but thematic listening. The ambition is small scale with depth.”
Illustrate Reacts premiered on October 1, 2025, on Illustrate Magazine’s official YouTube channel and website. Music fans everywhere are invited to subscribe, watch, and be part of the conversation.
