How I got my photos published in a magazine (for free)
Read on to find out the simple way to get your photos finally noticed!

So you want to know how I got my photos in a magazine?
I'm going to share my top 3 secrets to apply in your photographs to make sure you get featured in magazines. But firstly, make sure to follow my photography journey through my Instagram: e_p_photography.01 I post all of my newest content on there.
Okay, let's get started.
To get your photos published in an actual magazine print or online you MUST...
Have a good quality camera (whether this is a DSLR or Iphone, just experiment and see how passionate you are) The reason why I say to have a good quality camera is, so that the images you create are detailed and clearly demonstrate your vision. Furthermore, you actually know how to use your camera so you can get the best out of your photography.
The next tip is not essential but it definitely helps a lot.
Having a team of creatives (creatives in the industry such as models, stylists, MUA, hair stylists, assistants etc..) This will improve the shoot you form to look professional plus, you can add the team credits into the magazine blurb to share their socials too. It's a win win for everyone!
So once you have a good quality camera and you've got a team you're ready to get started shooting.
Shoot Plan (this could be as something as simple as a mood board on Pinterest or a call sheet etc..) This is definitely important when you have a team. A shoot plan keeps you and your team organised and clear on what the shoot is for and what the overall look will be like. Speak to your team and coheres ideas that you could create. Send them images of the type of makeup, hair, outfit, and location you're looking to create and discuss. It's always good to have a plan when shooting but sometimes the best shoots come from random ideas.
Shoot when it comes to the actual shoot play some funky music and get straight to it. Have a copy on your phone or on paper of the mood board to show the model for pose ideas just incase. Whether you hire a studio for the day or on location keep checking in on people, see how they're doing, take Behind the Scenes photos for them to post on social media too.
So you've finished the shoot and you have hundreds of photos to edit, how and where do you start?
Editing I recommend the software Lightroom and photoshop to edit your images. Magazines tend to post around max 4 of your images so you want to make sure those 4 are the best out of all of the photos you took.
I recommend starting off sorting through the images where people are blinking, not in focus, and off centre. From there find some poses that you like and favourite them. I tend to narrow 200 images into 50 in one day but it takes practice you will find a style and you will your style through the poses and images you take.
Once you've narrowed your images down to 10 you want to make them look more professional right? Editing photographs is easy once you know what each edit does for example: exposure, contrast, saturation etc.. start experimenting, you might prefer your images darker, exposed, or colourful.
Okay, you've completed your shoot, you've edited you're 10 images what now?
Here's what you've been waiting for.
A website called KAVYAR.
This is a platform where you can upload your images into any magazine they have on the site. I will say there are some you have to pay for however, there is a button where you can select free magazine submissions only. I highly recommend finding out a little bit about the magazine before you submit to anyone as each magazine has a theme. Look at your shoot and find a magazine that fits your theme too!
That's literally it. Just submit your images to them. Do it now.
