Dahab is a small city located on the southeastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It was previously a Bedouin fishing village located about 80 km (50 mi) north of Sharm El-Sheikh. The city of Dahab is one of the most important and famous diving and surfing destinations in Sinai and is served by Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport. Masbat (within the city of Dahab) is a popular diving destination, which means that there are many dive centers (50+) already located in the city of Dahab.

The city of Dahab can be divided into three main parts. Masbat, which includes the Bedouin village of Asala, is located to the north of the city. South of Masbat is the Al-Mashrabah area, which is one of the most famous tourist areas in the city of Dahab and has many hotels. In the southwest is the city which includes the Laguna area, which is famous for its shallow water surfingThe Asala region is quite developed and includes many camps and hostels. Most people who visited Dahab were, and still are, nomadic travelers interested in surfing, diving, and snorkeling in the Red Sea.

Blue hole:

The Blue Hole is one of the popular diving sites in eastern Sinai, a few kilometers north of Dahab on the Red Sea coast.

The Blue Hole is a submerged basin (a type of cave), about 130 meters deep. There is a shallow opening 6 meters deep, known as the “Saddle,” which opens to the sea, and a 26-meter-long tunnel, known as the Arch, located above at a depth of 56 metres. The crater itself and the surrounding area have an abundance of reef fish and coral.

Diving there is a very enjoyable experience, however, bow diving requires proper training and equipment, usually including a mixed gas qualification from a technical diving training agency, technical diving equipment such as redundant gas supplies, and a large capacity buoyancy control device.

The Blue Hole...the most famous diving spot in the Red Sea, in southern Sinai, Egypt. It is surrounded by many legends and stories, the most notable of which are: the Divers' Cemetery and the Blue Hole.

The Blue Hole is located in the city of Dahab, which was recorded as one of the safest tourist places during the spread of the Corona virus.

Bishoy Fayez, an Egyptian diving instructor, photographer, and traveler, told the website that the “Blue Hole” area, which is located in the heart of the Red Sea, is a hole on the beach with a length of 110 circular meters, and at a depth of 53 meters there is an arch 25 meters long that comes out. From it directly to the open sea.

Bishoy explained that in the past, this place was avoided by the Bedouin tribes who lived there, because of the legend known among them that there was a curse from the ghost of a girl who committed suicide because she refused to marry against her will.Bishoy explained that in the past, this place was avoided by the Bedouin tribes who lived there, because of the legend known among them that there was a curse from the ghost of a girl who committed suicide because she refused to marry against her will.

The Egyptian diving teacher explained that professional divers from all over the world announced the challenge and tried to dive in that area, explore it and learn its secrets. But many of them died, as more than 200 divers died who did not adhere to the rules of diving there.

Bishoy pointed out that they only practice recreational diving to a depth of 40 metres, but some divers believe that the remaining 12 meters are not a problem at all.

Bishoy continue saying that in front of the beach there is a memorial in which the names of the majority of the victims who lost their lives in this dangerous spot are recorded.

He pointed out that there are other legendary stories promoted by some related to the causes of the death of divers in the Blue Hole, including the presence of mermaids or sharks that swallow them, or them entering a narrow channel and not being able to get out of it, and others.
