.... And Then It's Gone

On Photographing Clouds, Cats, and Almost Anything

Cat Taking A Steam Bath

Introduction

Despite my current Vocal situation of inertia, I will not stop publishing Vocal stories, even if they are on this free Vocal backup account (sorry for keeping going on about this).

I find it ironic, that the Photography community on Vocal is still subject to the 600 minimum word limit when you would think that the stories would mainly consist of images.

Today I saw a cat on a fence in a jet of steam, you can see the video on my Instagram page here:

Then I started thinking of how many times, if you don't capture the photograph immediately, then it's gone, and it will probably never happen again.

Me As A Photographer

would not consider myself an even adequate photographer, but lots of people love the images I share on social media because of the subjects that I choose rather than the quality of the photographs themselves. I have only submitted four stories to the Vocal Photography Community. This will be my fifth, but it is my first on this backup account:

Very often, I will see a cloud formation, and it used to be that I would go and find my camera, then come back, and the cloud formation has gone, but these days our phone cameras are excellent, but even in the seconds it takes you can still lose the picture, it is there and then it is gone, it was just something that you saw.

I love these of the sun falling through the clouds like a golden rain

At the moment, Vocal's excellent search facility is crashing when you put in more than two words. I have done a story about clouds, and I used the picture below as the main image. I found the story using the word "lenticular", but one morning I walked out my front door and saw this "flying saucer". I am not sure how long it lasted, but I did manage to capture it on my phone.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will know there is a cat that has adopted us as treat providers. I noticed that the dish was being emptied, but I was sure it was not the cat, and then one day I saw a bird helping itself to the cat treats. Now, birds are difficult to photograph at the best of times and I have tried to get one with a bird and a cat on. I am sure I have one somewhere, but here is a bird.

At Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness I saw this robin on a park bench. There is a robin in our garden, but it never stays still enough to be photographed by me.

This is the cat watching a pigeon. I have not seen the pigeons eating the cat treats, but the cat thinks that they may try and help themselves.

This is a cat that has only visited once

There are many things I would love to catch on camera (or phone camera), but it is just a question of being patient and being quick enough to capture the image.

On a recent trip to Inverness, I caught the Jet2 jet near Edinburgh

This is a camera shot of the finish of the 2010 Epsom Derby. The winner was Sir Michael Stoute's "Workforce" ridden by Ryan Moore in a course record time.

Although it's not in my finish photo, the winner is Number 8 in this picture.

Then at Epson, there was this blimp, and the helicopter rotor looks to be stopped in this shot

Conclusion

Thank you so much for reading, and hope that you have enjoyed the photos I have shared with you.
