Letting Go of Self- Limiting Beliefs

By Thai CromerPublished 5 years ago 6 min read

Rituals are super important. And I want you to take a moment to think about your morning rituals.

My ritual happens to be the same as J Shetty, former monk, now businessman and advocate for wisdom going viral. He is an influencer. Who is bringing monk principles to the main stream. #MakeWisdomgoViral . Our morning rituals are the same. We wake up, go brush our teeth, we have meditation time, we spend some time outdoors in nature just being grateful for the day, then we check social media for a bit before we head on over to the gym ( Jay is more about light cardio and boxing, where I am about jump rope and yoga). Long story short if you won’t take it for me that rituals are important, at least listen to someone who was a former monk.

Technically it’s called a ritual because it is supposed to be the same routine over and over, but acknowledging that rituals can evolve, to incorporate some other things. In the particular morning where I learned this lesson, I incorporated jump rope into my morning workout practice as well as a weight lifting and cardio routine from a well-known online fitness trainer, and, of course, follow it all up with yoga sequence. Allowing a little bit of variation to my usual workout yoga routine is where this lesson evolved from:

You are so much more capable when you let go.

A lot of us try to become capable by maintaining control. We like to control our schedules, we like to control our day, we like to control how people perceive us, we like to control others perceptions of us by putting on a mask to who we really are as we want a certain type of attention from someone, we try to control our external environment in order to force the results that we want, etc…. So in adding this workout to my practice this morning, I did a sequence of active rest, which involved cooling down from lifting weights by running in place. In the active rest, the trainer kept saying “keep going, pick up the pace,” and using other encouraging words to keep me actively engaged. In my mind, I was thinking, I am running as fast as I can. As someone who has also formally run cross country and track, I am familiar with peak levels of my body and cardio form. How much faster can I actually run, especially just running in place?

What was really happening, was based on a past perception; I assumed I knew how fast I was only able to run. So I tried an experiment. Instead, in this moment, of listening to my mind, which already understood my limitations (or so I thought) I literally had a trainer egging me on to push past my limits. So I tried it.

I began running in place so fast, that my arms were not necessarily moving with my body anymore. Obviously, when you walk, your arms have a certain rhythm that they move with your body. It is the same thing with running. Have ever watched someone run track, or even run for yourself? I understand that keeping your arms moving is a major part in your momentum and the overall cadence of your run. I was running so fast with my feet, that my arms took on an entirely new rhythm. The best way to explain it would be through music; my feet were running on an eight count, but my arms were moving on a four count ( I honestly don’t know how else to explain this phenomenon besides with this example!)

In my controlled mind, I believed that I can only achieve a limit I had set for me in the past. I assumed I would only be able to hit a peek that I had already been able to control.

But at the point of letting go of control, and allowing the belief in self to carry me and trust… I had never seen my feet move that fast.

My feet were moving so fast, and my arms so fluidly, that my vision literally began to blur. I felt like my entire body was vibrating at a frequency I had never been vibrated before. In metaphysical terms, I can say I was on a whole other frequency.

I ran so fast in place, that I was able to break into

a new state of being.

This experience reminds me heavily of “The Animatrix”. Most people are very familiar with the popular series “The Matrix”, starring Keanu Reeves. But there is another series called “The AniMatrix”, comprised of about 10 or so animated short films that push the perception of reality. In one of the shorts there is a track runner. Now I’m not going to ruin the ending, because it is phenomenal to watch, but let’s just say, he trains so hard that he breaks through his own personal barriers of self-limiting beliefs of reality and taps into a whole other level of being and a whole other level of consciousness.

It takes an extreme amount of release able to do something like this. I know, when it comes to the Olympics or pushing past our current circumstances into a whole new realm (position, lifestyle, etc), we often set parameters that it takes a certain amount of gain (often physical and material) in order to level up. Often times, it really just requires the courage to release that control. It is releasing the limitations that we think we have.

Releasing our self-limited beliefs.

So in this moment, perhaps you have had a similar experience, or you were trying for something so hard finally you let it go, you could not deal with the overwhelming pressure of trying to attain it, and you finally just gave up and let go. And immediately all the things that you needed, and had been hoping for, flowed to you or through you. This release feels just like that.

In this moment, I kept thinking, “I need to run faster I need to run faster, but I can’t run faster, I know how fast I can run, I can’t run faster, but this person is telling me to run faster, but I can’t run faster.” In that moment of trying to do something I have never done, I finally let go of the mental belief that could not, and released the control I had over my legs, and just let go.

My feet started to move faster than I ever experienced in moving before but in this moment, I was able to break through to this other level of being. I wish, for the sake of your understanding, I could put this experience into a more tangible or concrete explanation.

But there are some things that are so beyond our perceived beliefs that you must experience them for yourself.

In the metaphysical world, we understand that everything is just love at the end of the day. Everything is just a gratitude practice at the end of the day. This is the simplest tangible equation I can give you to what happened to me in that experience. When you start to pollute and use lower frequencies to explain something of a higher frequency and give more and more examples and explanations, it really can dilute the meaning of the experience.

With this specific experience, I can say that I was able to let go enough, trust my body enough, to experience this higher level of existence. You are so much more capable, when you let go, and release control and for just a moment, allow flow, and allow your own greatness to be bigger when it is out of your hands. You are capable of tapping into new versions of yourself you did not even know were waiting to be groomed by you.
