You are not Super Chick or Superman, stop saying Yes!
Tips on Self Care
Stop saying yes!
We can’t be all be superhero’s to convince folks that we can do everything. During the week you have a 9-5 plus overtime to make enough and help out. However, the person who needs help:you.
Without self care, you will be physically, emotionally, and mentally unstable.
You won’t have enough energy to do more projects, get frustrated, anxiety attacks, etc.
After a long hard day, you should take time to take care of yourself. Here are ways to self-care:
-Breathe. Take 3 deep breathes when you are on your break.
-Ladies and Gentlemen, three words: Get A Massage. Take time to pamper yourself so you will have enough relaxation to your body. Also, go to a Nail Salon to get your feet done. Some salons have flavors to help you relax while soaking your feet and toes. Plus, they will have a massage chair. It’s to die for.
-Exercising- We get tired after work and never had a chance to work out. Take 30-45 minutes to get active. Walk around your neighborhood, a park or a hill.
Dancing to your favorite artist. Try to channel your inner Beyoncé, Janet, J.Lo, Michael Jackson, Cardi B, Lady Gaga,Usher and more to dance the stress away. I would dance to “Formation” , “Bad Romance”, “Up” or “Thriller”
-Laugh. Watch a hilarious movie that will make your eyes water. Personally my favorite movie to watch would be “Tropic Thunder” starring Ben Stiller, Tom Cruise, and Robert Downey, Jr.
-For spiritual purposes: Take the time to read your bible to get through your good and bad days. Get the Pray app or The Bible app(get both) to receive notifications on your phone to get your Verse of the Day. After reading your daily verse, pray. Prayer changes everything. (Read Matt 6:25-34)
-Meditation: Take 15-20 minutes to meditate. You can lay flat on your bed, sit in a chair, or in crisscross apple sauce position. Which ever makes you comfortable, meditate. Turn on sea shore sounds or your soft inspirational music to help relax your mind.
Last but not least- Talk to someone you trust. Whether it’s your parents, spouse, or therapist to talk about your problems. It’s ok to ask for help and get advice from someone who has been in your shoes. There’s no shame to ask for help.
In general, no one can be superwoman or Superman. It’s ok to say no, so you can focus on yourself. Plan ahead and be prepared if your plans doesn’t work out. Don’t stress and overthink. Ask yourself, “Will I finish on time?” “What can I say and how would I say it?” Or my personal favorite would be “What Would (favorite celebrity) Do?” Sometimes I would ask myself, “ What would Michael B Jordan do?” Or Kobe Bryant. When you figure it out, you will be fine.
