Why You Should Embrace Your Weirdness
If you want to bring your uniqueness to light.
“Don’t confound static electricity with ecstatic eccentricity. One will leave your hair up, the other will live up in the air!” — Ana Claudia Antunes,
Have you ever wondered why some aspects of you are very different? And why you do some things in a very different way? And what it’d be like if there are no some aspects of you that are odd?
It’s unthinkable to live in a world where every human does things the same way. It won’t be fun. And Innovations would be hard to come by because innovation occurs when people embrace their weirdness and allow it to guide them into living a lifestyle that leads them to come up with novel ideas and innovations.
But when you choose not to embrace your weirdness, you put a damp on your uniqueness. You insulate yourself from connecting to that path of you that would help make your light shine by stopping yourself from being curious, free to explore, and unafraid of failure and mistakes.
No one can replicate the way you do things. How you interpret images, dreams, and sounds and use them to generate ideas.
The uniqueness in your works is concealed in your weirdness. And when you accept it and embrace it, you begin to create the kind of life you want. Your uniqueness will begin to come to light. This is so because your uniqueness is wired into your weirdness.
What Happens When You Embrace Your Weirdness?
Embracing your weirdness allows you to clear the path for yourself, make yourself interesting, and attract attention to your work. By releasing yourself from the shackles of conformity, societal acceptance, and making room for creativity and authenticity.
And when you are authentic, you live to please no one. Rather you step out each day to live authentically. And to be yourself. You desist from trying to fit into any mold by continuing to create the kind of life that’s right for you.
When you live a life that’s untrammeled by people’s expectations and judgments, your level of confidence will increase. You’d feel more comfortable with exploring, making mistakes, and creating.
We’ve always lived under the pressure of conformity and social acceptance. We place expectations on each other every day. We expect each other to do things in particular ways that are acceptable by everyone or by a particular group. But the more we live this way, the more we reduce our self-esteem. We stop ourselves from being curious about life. And about the things that would make our lives unique, rewarding, and fulfilling.
Being weird makes every one of us beautiful. It’s the eccentricity that exists in us that brings us together to enjoy and appreciate the creations of each other.
How to Embrace your weirdness.
Embracing your weirdness means being free. Releasing yourself to explore, experiment, make mistakes and be happy with what you’re doing. It means living a life that’s devoid of conformity and societal approval, but inherently curious to discover more about yourself.
Not being focused on doing things the acceptable way. You disregard the opinion and judgment of people about you and do what you enjoy doing. You step out of your comfort zone so that you can create your path.
Embracing your weirdness means moving in a path that’s contrary to what society accepts. But which society would later accept after you succeeded in producing unique results.
People will respect you, accept you and follow you after you’ve embraced your weirdness, and produce beautiful results in the process.
“By discovering why you are the way you are, you also find the key to being what you want to be.” Robert Anthony.
All the great innovators we know were once heavily criticized and in some cases ostracized for being eccentric. But they continued living their weird lifestyle, having fun in what they enjoyed doing. Eventually, they invented unique products and came up with novel ideas that engendered their critics to become their admirers.
Begin to accept yourself wholly. Acknowledge that you’re very different from everyone else. The oddities in the way you do things are what make you unique.
You might admire someone’s work and accomplishments, but don’t copy anyone. You dull your shine and diminish your uniqueness each time you copy others. And you end up creating things that are devoid of authenticity and uniqueness.
Strive to do things you enjoy doing. Don’t restrain yourself or confine yourself to an acceptable way of doing things. The more you do things your way, the more you create authentic works that reflect who you truly are.
