Why You're Bored And What Do About It

…they might start to like you, and then boom — tips, boom — cash.

This holiday has indeed been an eye opener for me in so many ways. The most important being that my discovery of actual time use came in towards the end of the break. Somehow, it felt both unnecessarily long and short at the same time. Let me break it down to you.

. . .

It felt long because the hours and minutes crawled by, making me wonder why the dishes weren't washing themselves - maybe, I was supposed to do it. Why were they taking even longer to dry?

And why was the vacuum cleaner taking up so much time to run through the carpet? I mean, can't it eventually do that on its own with our evolving technology?

Ticking away mindlessly

Yes, that's the long I'm talking about. On the other hand, they were super short when I got actively involved in gaming. Wake up, take a peek outside, that green birdie's treating us to her daily scream concert with free tickets.

Now turn back and 'glimpse' at Emily in Paris. It's never just a glimpse - it's an entire season binge, isn't it?

Of course that might not make a difference at the time. The wake-up call is when you swivel back and realize how much the sky has changed. The nocturnal creatures have suddenly developed confidence to strut around in the supposedly day.

And just like that, you've turned a perfectly good day into a masterpiece of… nothingness.

. . .

Next thought that comes up is 'tomorrow's always there to finish up that essay, I barely had time for it anyways'. But there's plenty of time to post on Instagram or reply to that nosy follower on TikTok.

There's plenty of time to keep up with the Kardashians and find those cute nails you lost on Pinterest after the refresh.

There's none to review those notes from after lectures, why? Tiredness steps in. And diving into that tech research? Not a chance because misunderstanding pays you a visit .

But here's the thing, it takes just one step, maybe a couple, and motivation to go after that dream. It is way more effort than scrolling through Facebook. And here comes the big question…

Aren't you bored already?

Bored of always scrolling, Bored of glancing between your windows and TV and not even noticing time slip away, Bored of… procrastinating and getting disappointing results each time, Bored of the same old routine every single day?

Well I am. I am bored. Merriam Webster puts it that 'Boredom is a state of being weary and restless through lack of interest'. Tedious repetition leads boredom and boredom begets a desire to find something… worthwhile. I think I found mine: writing.

Yes, this is my first published article but it's definitely not the first one I've written.

. . .

Writing might not be your thing like it is mine, but maybe tutoring could . And no, I don't mean math or science. It could be teaching that kid down the street how to play guitar - for free at first, but who knows?

The parents might start to like you, and then boom - tips, boom - cash. Or maybe it's babysitting, or even mowing lawns!

All I'm saying is there could be so much talent discovered if the time invested in scrolling mindlessly through Pinterest was invested into something more productive.

So, let's swap our screens for substance, our excuses for action, and our boredom for a life of excitement and growth.

Remember, it takes just one step to start building a masterpiece. And trust me, the feeling which comes with realizing such potential is ecstatic. I hope you find your worthwhile. P.S. - Chill, this isn't your weekly homework alarm, my fellow young adults. Just a dose of procrastination reality <3333
