Introduction

It's easy to say, I'll start Monday, or after I get that promotion. But if we're not doing it right now, then we're not doing it. All too often people stay in their comfort zone and never experience what their potential could be because they're afraid of failing or not being perfect. The problem is that procrastination isn't just a habit—it's a way of life for many people who avoid challenging themselves at all costs because they fear failure so much. But as soon as we decide to take action rather than plan action, and as soon as we stop trying to be perfect and aim for progress instead—even if it's small steps toward our goal—we will immediately start moving forward toward our goal!

You've probably heard the saying, "start now." It's a simple concept, but it's one that can be easy to forget when you're waiting for the perfect time. You might think that everything will fall into place once you get promoted or if your boss isn't so demanding, but really those things are no excuse to delay action.

The truth is that there is no such thing as the perfect time to do something—there will always be something else going on or hanging over your head. The sooner you start taking action on your goals, the sooner they'll become realities!

If we're not doing it right now, then we're not doing it.

The sooner you start, the sooner you get to the finish line. The more time passes, the more opportunity there is for something else to come up and distract you from your goal altogether. If we don't take action now, then we're likely never going to do what it is that we want to do—no matter how much time passes or how many excuses are made.

Many people know the value of getting started on the goals they have set for themselves.

Many people know the value of getting started on the goals they have set for themselves. Achieving these goals often requires new skills, which means taking action and putting in time to learn them. But the idea of doing something new can be scary, especially if you’ve never tried it before. The good news is that there are lots of ways to get started no matter what your ability level is.

Here are some tips for getting started right away:

  • Make a plan: Think about what you would like to do, how much time it will take and where you might need help along the way (e.g., online tutorials). Then break down each step into smaller tasks so that each one seems more manageable and less overwhelming at first glance.
  • Find support: What makes someone else successful may not work for you—but sometimes just knowing someone has been where we want ourselves helps us feel better about taking action.
  • Be flexible: It’s easy to have an idea in mind of how things should go when we go into something new—but sometimes things don’t go according to plan! If something doesn’t work out exactly as planned, allow yourself space for creativity instead of getting discouraged or giving up entirely
  • The problem is, they don't take the steps necessary to move their plans forward.

The problem is, they don’t take the steps necessary to move their plans forward. They say things like, “I’ll start Monday” or “When summer is over, I will…” or “After the new year begins and I get that promotion, then I will…” These phrases are just a way of putting off getting started for another time in the future. If you have goals that you have set for yourself—however big or small—and you are not reaching them right now then it means that:

    • You are not doing it at all!
    • It becomes less likely as time passes by!

All too often, people stay in their comfort zone and never experience what their potential could be.

The reason for this is that they are afraid. They are afraid of the unknown, of change and of stepping outside of their boundaries. They don't want to do something that is uncomfortable or even difficult.

In order to succeed at anything worth doing it will require you to work hard and face challenges head on. It's easy to sit back and criticize others for not getting out more but if you don't take action yourself then your words mean nothing!

We procrastinate and avoid challenging ourselves because we are afraid.

We fear failure, getting it wrong, being judged, making a mistake and being seen as incompetent or lazy or weak. When you look at the list of fears above, what do they have in common? They all bring up a negative perception of yourself in front of others—a perception that can have lasting effects on your self-esteem.

But as soon as we decide to take action rather than plan action, and as soon as we stop trying to be perfect and aim for progress instead, we will immediately start moving forward toward our goal.

The problem with waiting, is that it's an excuse. You are telling yourself that you can't do something today because tomorrow will be better. Or next month. Or when you have more money or time or friends or whatever else is holding you back from making a change in your life right now.

The truth is, if you're waiting for tomorrow to get started on your dream, then it'll always be tomorrow and your dream will never come true. You have to take action now! If not now then when?

The most important time to act is right here and right now.

What you do today will affect you tomorrow. The sooner you start, the sooner you will achieve your goal. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get started. And if you keep delaying indefinitely, procrastination can take over completely—but only if we let it happen!

    Conclusion

In the end, you have to decide if it’s worth it for you to commit to a goal. We can talk about the benefits all day long, but ultimately, only you know what will motivate and inspire your life. If there is one thing we hope our readers take away from this article though? That would be that soon is not as good as now. The sooner you act on your goals, the more likely they are to come true; so get started today!
