Why Staging Your Home isn't Just for Selling

Create a Space You Love to Live in!

By Jodie RowePublished about a year ago 6 min read

Usually, when you think about staging your home, you think about getting your home ready to sell. Often, you create the home you would ideally love to live in when you're getting ready to sell your home. You declutter, finish nagging projects, deep clean, etc.

Often, the work you do to get your home ready to sell makes you love your home even more. When you're staging your home to sell it, you don't get to appreciate and enjoy it for yourself.

What if you did this while you were still living in your home and could enjoy it? What if you try staging your home to live in, rather than to sell it?

STAGING YOUR HOME FOR YOURSELF

Not just the idea of staging your home by completing some specific projects, not necessarily to sell home, but to create a home you love even more.

I'll share the benefits of staging your home - even if you have no intention of selling with some keyways to stage your home for maximum impact. Helping you to take action so you can enjoy your home even more now, rather than when you are ready to sell it.

Many of the things you can do to stage your home require very little monetary investment. They just require your time and energy, but will transform the way your home looks, feels and functions.

The Benefits of Staging Your Home to Live in

Here are some key benefits of staging your home for yourself:

Enjoy Your Home More

One of the main benefits of staging your home is how much more you will enjoy your home. When your home is clutter-free, well-maintained and clean, it instantly feels more inviting and comfortable. You don't need to wait for potential buyers to appreciate a well-kept home. You deserve to enjoy it now!

Your Home Functions Better

Clutter and disorganization can make daily tasks more difficult. By decluttering and organizing your home, you can help your home function better. Making it easier to find what you need, keep things tidy and maintain your home.

For example, when you streamline your kitchen, cooking and cleaning up is easier. Not to mention your kitchen is more pleasant to use. Or when you declutter and organize your entryway, it's easier to get out the door on busy mornings.

Staging your home to live in means prioritizing function and ease of use, which helps your days run smoother.

Protect Your Home's Value

Regular maintenance and repairs are important for protecting the value of your home. If you don't address smaller repairs and maintenance until it's time to sell, you might face larger, more expensive issues that could have been avoided with timely repairs.

By fixing small problems as they arise, and keeping up with regular maintenance, you not only make your home more pleasant to live in, but also help protect the value of your home over time.

Create a Home You Feel Proud Of

Going through the work of staging your home for yourself can help reignite your sense of pride in your home. When your home is well-maintained and looks great, you'll likely love your home even more than you already do.

You might feel inspired to host guests more, creating the potential to deepen relationships with the people you love. Or simply create a home you love spending time in and feel proud of.

HOW TO STAGE YOUR HOME YOURSELF

Now that you know the benefits of staging your home to live in, let's dive into the practical steps you can take to make your home feel like a place you love living in.

Thoroughly Declutter Every Room

Decluttering is usually the first step when you're staging your home for sale, and it should also be the first step when staging your home to live in. People often declutter before moving and love how much lighter and fresher their home feels. You don't have to wait until you're selling your house. Declutter and enjoy the space you're creating in your home now.

Go through each room in your home and get rid of anything you no longer use, need or love. Have the goal of reducing clutter to create more space and make your home feel calmer.

Don't forget to assess the furniture you have and see if you can get rid of any pieces to create space and make your rooms feel more open.

Decluttering makes your home look better, feel better and function better. As well as making it easier to maintain your home and keep your home tidy and clean.

Make Small Repairs

Homes require maintenance, but it's easy to put off small repairs because they don't seem urgent. But over time, you live with annoying things that need to be repaired that could easily be fixed. Not only can they be frustrating, but sometimes what could have been a small repair becomes more major over time when it's not addressed.

Maybe it's a dripping faucet, a cracked tile, a door that doesn't close properly, nail holes in the wall that need to be patched, etc.

Fix any small repairs as they arise, as well as tackle any long overdue repairs you've been putting off. You'll save yourself the frustration of living with these issues. As well as the stress of ending up with multiple repairs all needing attention at once. Or the potential of small problems worsening and becoming more time-consuming and expensive to fix.

Deep Clean Your Home

Giving your home a deep clean, especially in often-overlooked areas, makes your home feel fresh and well cared for. A deep clean is often a standard part of preparing to sell your home, but why not do it now, for you and your family to enjoy?

Not only does deep cleaning make your home feel better, but it also makes your home a healthier place to be by removing dust, allergens and grime.

You don't have to deep clean your home all in one day. Make a plan to get it done, maybe by spreading the work over a couple of weeks so it feels manageable. Once you get it done, you'll enjoy a home that feels lighter, brighter, cleaner and more inviting.

Maximize Curb Appeal

Curb appeal isn't just important when selling your home - it also makes a difference in how you feel every time you come home. As well as creates a home you feel proud of.

Take a walk around the exterior of your home and notice anything that needs some attention. It could be trimming back overgrown shrubs or bushes, washing windows and siding, trimming trees, sweeping away cobwebs, adding some seasonal flowers or greenery, giving your trim or door a fresh coat of paint, etc.

These small improvements help make your home feel welcoming before you even step inside and create a home you love and feel proud of.

Refresh Your Decor

While you're decluttering and cleaning, take some time to refresh your decor. You don't need to go out and buy all new furniture by any means, but a few small tweaks can make a big difference.

Play around rearranging your existing furniture to see if you can create a better flow in a space. Add a few simple touches like new throw pillows, a cozy rug or fresh plants.

Even small changes can make your home feel updated, refreshed and more pleasant to be in.

Budget For Larger Renovations

And finally, start budgeting for any larger renovations or projects you'd like to tackle in your home.

For example, start saving to replace worn carpets, or to update your kitchen. It might not be possible right away, but you can start planning for and saving for any bigger updates and renovations you'd eventually like to do.

Staging Your Home to Live in

Why wait until you're selling your home to make it beautiful, functional and comfortable? Staging your home to live in helps you create a space you can enjoy now!

Don't save the best version of your home for someone else to enjoy. Created a home you love today - it's the place where your life happens!
