Why Should We Take Care Of Small Things In Life?

A Lesson From My Grandma

By Harsh JainPublished 4 years ago 5 min read

What do I mean when I say take care of small things?

Exactly, I felt it somewhat boring in starting like oh man I do always take care of my things and there is nothing extra to know about it.

But let me clear this, When I say small things, I meant to say that every single thing you always have. It may include the smallest things like an eraser or even a pen in your box.

Like if you start caring genuinely for those small things, then your mind will focus on that only at that particular moment and start to release you from the overthinking and the foolish thoughts that always ran into your mind. You'll be more aware about your surroundings and yourself.

Now let’s understand this with one incident:

Actually, three days before, I went to my grandmother's house, as I'm sure you all did, and there I offered her a waterbag for a back massage since she was in agony there. Now, here's the wonderful thing: when I gave her that waterbag, she immediately began looking for the cotton thread to tie the waterbag's cover.

Here's the crazy thing: she loves to take care of minor things, and she even had some old bags from my mother and father's marriage. Now that she couldn't find that piece of thread, I said, "It's okay if it got lost; we can purchase another one from the market," but she rejected it and advised me, "Never take anything for granted; in fact, if something gets lost, attempt to find it before saying, "I'll buy it off." Without a doubt, you are correct in doing so, and you will save time, which is the most valuable commodity in anyone's life. But keep in mind that by searching for a single thread instead of rushing to the store to buy one, you are actually learning patience, perseverance, and mindfulness. You will, in the end, learn something, she said.

She told me that the main purpose of doing this is to be more mindful and present in certain situations. She said that this mindset also allows us to be more patient in certain situations. Like searching for some stupid thread would be annoying, but if we tackle that moment of frustration and have some patience in our hearts, then it actually is good for us in the long term.

She further said, "In today's fast-paced world, with fast-paced technologies." Every day, we humans become more and more sedentary. She stated that technology has made many things easier for us, such as searching for products online and ordering food and talking to our loved ones. When you're hungry, rather than getting up and cooking something delicious, you'd rather purchase it online since it's convenient. As a result, we quickly lose our patience. We want things to go quickly and easily without facing much pressure or stress for ourselves. We don't want to wait; we want everything delivered to our table as soon as possible, or we'll become annoyed. She said that, as a result of our obsession with getting everything done quickly, we've begun to prefer looking for shortcuts to success, which isn't fair, my son.

Look, sweetie,

You are here to make a positive difference in your own way, don't be lazy, practice patience, wait for the things, switch off your phone and take a good soothing walk in nature, read good books, spent quality time with your loved ones, practice gratitude for the everything you have. Listen to your intuition, thrive diligently for the joyful future you so truly deserve, she said.

She calmly told me to be patient in doing things, to not get obsessed with fast and rapid success, My grandmother advised my son, The true taste of success comes when you work hard when you confront your obstacles with courage, when you don't lose your patience easily, and when you strive to be the best version of yourself possible. True success is achieved when you emerge as a champion despite all odds being stacked against you, when you believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams, and when you take constructive steps to attain your great goals. True success is the kind that makes you cry with excitement. Rather than looking for shortcuts to success, work for it.

These inspiring words from my grandma gave me goosebumps!

I then asked her if technology is too bad to go to or if it makes us too lazy?

She declined. Humans have given themselves a gift in the form of technology. She grinned and stated that having access to anything is too hazardous;

technology is excellent, but you should control technology, technology should not control you.

She stated, Instead of searching for something online, read books; instead of chatting with friends, go to the playground and play with them; plan a trip with your loved ones, or go on trips by yourself. You'll feel a lot better than wasting time scrolling through your Facebook feed or watching a movie or series. You will feel happier and more joyful as you reduce your screen time. Spend some time with yourself, just you and nothing else, getting to know yourself, practicing gratitude, meditation, and gently analyzing your beautiful emotions. You'll gradually come to understand yourself. By this, You'll gain control over yourself, and with patience, and preserverance, and with time you'll going to achieve true success.

I was completely shocked at that time, as my beliefs of saving time for unimportant things like searching for the thread, doing things, and rushing for success were all broken, and then the sense of little comfort and calmness strike my heart after listening to my grandma. It really was such a great day with many great lessons that I learned from my grandma's wisdom.

After all this, I asked a lot more about my grandma about the old days.

The sole objective of this blog post was to emphasize the importance of taking care of even the smaller things in our lives, as doing so would only benefit us in the long run. And we should strive for actual success rather than daydreaming about it or just thinking about it without doing anything to make it happen.
