Who Is the Fool?

A Thought-Provoking Story (A Must Read)

It is said that a very wealthy man once hired a servant who was not very bright.

Whenever the rich man returned home from work, tired and tense, he would ask that poor servant silly questions just for fun. The servant, using his little bit of sense, would answer in his own way — and the master would laugh endlessly. That laughter was his way of relieving the stress of the day.

One day, the rich man thought of testing his servant’s foolishness.

He gave him a white stick and said,

> “You will give this stick to someone who is more foolish than you.”

Time passed, and one day, the wealthy man fell seriously ill.

He called his servant and said softly,

> “Please forgive me. I used to play with your emotions just to have a few moments of laughter in my busy life.”

Tears filled the servant’s eyes.

He asked, “Master, why are you talking like this today?”

The master replied, “Because I am going far away.”

The servant asked innocently, “Are you going by plane or by car?”

The master’s eyes filled with tears.

He said, “Neither by plane nor by car — the Angel of Death will come and take me.”

The servant asked, “Oh! Then you must have bought cars for there?”

The master said, “No…”

The servant continued, “Then at least you must have arranged some servants to help you there? Or built a big mansion to live in? Have you packed your belongings?”

The master lowered his eyes and said, “No… I have no house there, no servants, and no possessions. One has to go there empty-handed.”

The servant, shocked and puzzled, asked, “Then when will you come back?”

The master replied sadly, “Whoever goes there never comes back… he stays there forever.”

The servant stood silently for a few moments, thinking deeply.

Then suddenly, he ran to his room and returned holding the same white stick.

He handed it back to his master.

The rich man was surprised and asked, “Why are you giving me this stick?”

The servant said quietly,

> “Master, long ago you told me to give this stick to someone more foolish than myself.

Today, I found that person — and it’s you.”

> “You worked all your life to build grand houses, hire servants, and collect cars for the short stay in this temporary world —

but for the eternal home where you are going forever, you earned nothing.

So, Master, I can no longer stay with a man more foolish than me.”

Saying this, the servant left…
