What to do when you think you are not doing enough.

You are the best version of yourself.

By Olalekan AdeekoPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

As we grow in different areas of life, we grow with an in-depth and increased level of awareness, sensitivity, thoughts, reasoning, and feelings.

One of the areas of growth experienced by humans I would like to discuss today is in the area of our thinking. Every success-oriented person will at one point or another in their career, business, personal development experience this feeling of "not doing enough", "not meeting up to theirs or the required standard", the "I should have gone farther and better at this feeling".

Just like I said earlier, all these are normal, regular feelings and thoughts that come to the mind of successful, goal-oriented people. You don't have to be hard on yourself anytime such thoughts come, you don't have to get mad at what you are doing and feel as if you have done rubbish, you really do not need to start putting blames on others for what you thought should have been better, you really do not have to sum up all your works as been shallow just because you think and feel you can still do more and better.

I really must tell you I have been in that situation before and I am still going to be because it is normal. A lot of times I feel and I talk myself down probably when I finish completing a task or when I decide to sit and take a break, then I start to reflect on myself and all that I had done so far. Then boom these thoughts and feelings start creeping in and I just sit and imagine someone ahead of me in my career or whatever it was that I was doing at the moment then I say to myself, "Just take a good look at this person, see and compare what you are doing now to what he/she is doing." Then I start to feel like I was operating or performing below standards and expectations.

Oftentimes when I have such feelings and thoughts it changes my mood, lowers my self-esteem, disrupts the belief I have in myself and what I was capable of doing. The saddest part of it all is those thoughts and feelings do not solve anything, they don't. You think, over-think till your esteem is nowhere to be found then you find it so difficult to even do perfectly the jobs or things you have been doing excellently well before.

Do not worry as I have got a solution for you. The first thing you need to do is:

1) Take a deep breath and look back at the past good works you have done.

2) Reflect on each and every one of the projects you did excellently that got you more money or made you happy.

3) Acknowledge that you are doing more than enough now than before.

4) Reflect on all that you have accomplished as see them all as the stepping stone you engaged in before getting to this particular height of your life. Example: Career success, Business success, Promotion at work, Increased knowledge, expertise and experience, and many more.

3) Decide to see a better way to improve yourself.

4) Remember the goal and the big picture you look at achieving at the end of it all.

5) Work at the pace at which you have been doing before, you are free to decide when to increase your pace.

If you can carefully adhere to this then, you have gained mastery of such feelings and thoughts, because the truth is it will always come at different levels of your life. It is not programmed for just a particular time.

Do not give up. You alone are the best version of yourself.
