Hey there, good to see you again! Let me ask you something: where do you get your inspiration from to write your story? What or who did you base the character of your story on? Do you get inspiration from shows you have watched? Go through an event that was humorous, scary, or just made you think, Oh, what the hell?

I went through something similar with the development of my protagonist, Noiba the wererabbit. I came across a computer game called Dramatical Murder.

It’s a Multi-ending visual novel from acclaimed Boys' Love developer Nitro+Chiral, and there are two characters I fell in love with. These two are the characters I based Noiba on.

The first was the game's main character, Aoba Seragaki, a kind-hearted individual who lives with his grandmother and desires a happy, simple life. Aoba is known for having blue hair (from birth) and is also into men.

The other Character is called Noiz; it’s pronounced 'Noise'.

He is not from Japan; he was born in Germany but ran away to Japan and became a skilled hacker. In the game, you can choose whether Aoba and Noiz can hook up and stay together as lovers.

I know I would, which is why I combine both names, Aoba and Noiz, to get Noiba. Noiba is a guy/wererabbit who is into both guys and girls and happens to be working both as a Tech support department head and a hacker (FYI Noiba doesn’t steal information or money, instead Noiba gathers detail information from nearby resorts to help with sales and promotions for his job) and enjoys the simple things in life and has a big heart, but also has a bit of a short temper just like Aoba and Noiz.

The inspiration for the story of my manga, Two Shakes of a Tail, came from two manga and anime series: Monster Musume and Monster Girl Doctor. Both stories explore the coexistence of humans and mythical creatures.

Not to mention, there is comedy, some romance, and an opportunity to learn about each character and how we, as individuals, can relate to one another. I highly recommend either reading or watching it on TV.

It is incredible how, when you come across an image, a person, or an event in your life, it can ignite a story for you to write.

Let me give you a few examples.

Shadow the Hedgehog’s design was inspired by the comic book Spawn, as well as a Japanese Kabuki Mask.

Silver the Hedgehog’s design and story were based on Dragon Ball Z’s Future Trunks. Just like Trunks, Silver was also from a future that was a dystopia, and he traveled to the past to fix his world.

Chucky the doll was based on an actual doll named Robert, who was a gift to a young boy from a servant woman who had practiced Voodoo.

The young boy who was the original owner once said that the doll would move by itself, attack people, and bring misfortune. This story is what inspired the Horror film Chucky franchise.

The TV series Titus was based on the real life and stand-up comedy of its star, Christopher Titus. His comedy style is best described as screwball black humor, as the show and his stand-up routines explored his dysfunctional family life and personal struggles.

And finally, let’s not forget the author J.K. Rowling, the writer of the famous Harry Potter books.

Her inspiration for the books in the Harry Potter series came from a variety of sources, including childhood experiences, literary works, and personal struggles, such as the loss of her mother and being a single mother while trying to get her work published.

Inspiration has its way of coming into a writer's life to help give birth to many ideas.
