We shouldn't reserve the word inspirational for exceptional stories and people.
An Unpopular Opinion

Inspiration: The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
I see the world as one big learning experience, I look at it with eyes wide open, always absorbing, learning, and asking questions. I am also always looking for ways to improve myself the next challenge, next class, next activity, next adventure and because of that I have met a lot of people, heard a lot of stories, seen many places and have a desire to see and learn more.
My strongest core belief is that we can learn something from everyone if we open up our hearts to their experiences. The more I learned about the people around me the more I realized how inspirational they were to me. They inspired me to do more, or get out of my comfort zone, explore a different side of me or try something new.
For awhile I thought this was just me and they way I saw my world but then this past week I competed in a fitness challenge. I pushed 450 pounds across a green. It was exhausting. I told my friend about it and we started talking. Turns out I inspired him to start working out again.
This got me thinking. Could I actually be an inspirational person? I mean I thought I was striving for that with my endless need for perfectionism, high marks in college, looking for the right job, pushing myself harder and harder, but could I just be inspirational without that.
Me, by myself. The person who occasionally struggles to get out of bed in the morning, the person who hates doing laundry, the person who still doesn't have a job in their field, an endless amount of debt and is trying to make it as a blogger but still feels like they are failing. Can I inspire people by just being me?
The answer I came to is yes. If we simplify the definition of inspirational. If a person inspires you to be better then they are inspirational. Don't get me wrong all the big names that people come up with when they are asked to write about inspirational people are also inspirational but they are also exceptional, meaning not of the norm.
This way all people can realize that they have the ability to impact other in a positive way, that they can inspire them to do better.
Things that ordinary people do that never fail to inspire me because it is incredible. This list is probably longer but it is what I got so far.
Every Coming Out story ever, the good, bad and the ugly. You had the strength to be you and no matter how you did it, it should be celebrated. If you are part of the community and you cant come out well I am still inspired by your strength to keep pushing through everyday.
Every single person in the #MeToo movement the stories that were able to be told publicly and the one that were not. You had to fight to reclaim your body autonomy and stand up for the most basic human right. Even though the wounds are not visible the scars are still there. The healing after that takes a long time and it doesn't help that the battle for justice is taking a long time to come.
Mom, especially working moms. I am 25 and as much as I think babies are cute I like being able to return them. So good job procreating and parenting I know its hard.
All the people who are just starting to work out and get in shape. Even though I don't talk to you or maybe even go to the same gym as you, I am also cheering you on because I know how hard is to get in shape and how frustrating it can be.
Independent Director and Film Producers, not to mention actors. I think its cool that you follow your passion part time. You guys are some of the most dedicated and passionate people I have ever met.
Those are some of most inspirational people in my day to day life. Your may be different and I may have more but that is where I am going to leave it right now. Take a look around you and see who inspires you.
