Unfulfilled hopes: A girl's victory
A hope born in the soil of the village
The sun of Pratapgarh had risen like every other day, but today there was something different in the air. The sweet smell of the soil echoed with the laughter of a little girl. Sapna was born in the lap of Ramlal and Ganga. Her name was Sapna, but to make it a reality, she did not know that one day she would have to fight the chains of society.
Ramlal was a farm labourer and Ganga could barely run the house by working in other people's houses. But the biggest wish of both was that their daughter should get educated and create a new world. But the rule of the village was different - "A girl's place is near the stove, not near the books!"
The first victory of the first opposition
When Sapna started going to school, the women of the neighborhood started taunting her -
"What is the use of educating daughters? In the end, they have to manage the kitchen!"
Ramlal ignored everyone's words, but Ganga was afraid. Would she really be able to go against this thinking of the society? But seeing Sapna's passion, her mother also started supporting her.
Then came the biggest test of the village!
There was a competition in the school, in which the winning child would get a chance to study for free in a big school in the city. Sapna decided that she wanted this opportunity at any cost. She worked hard day and night, studied secretly at night and… she won!
But this happiness did not last long. Some people of the village got angry -
"Will a girl go to the city to study? This will stain our tradition!"
The village head Dharampal Singh tried to convince the father,
"Ramlal, giving too much flight to daughters only leads to their downfall. It would be better if you get her married soon."
But this time Ramlal did not give in.
"If my daughter wants to fly, I will not cut her wings!"
City world and new dreams
Sapna went to the city, but life there was not easy. New environment, new people and countless difficulties! But the biggest shock came when her father died in an accident. The financial condition of the house worsened further. Ganga's shoulders were now bent further.
But Sapna did not give up. She would go to college during the day, and earn money by giving tuitions at night. She had to win her battle at any cost.
Then one day she got the news—
Her childhood friend Sunita was being forcibly married in the village. The girl's screams were suppressed, but they reached Sapna.
"Save me, Sapna! Don't let me be pushed into this hell!"
Sapna's blood boiled. She went to the police and stopped Sunita's marriage. The people of the village became furious. They threatened to set Sapna's house on fire. The mother and daughter had to leave the village, but Sapna made a promise to herself—
"Now I will never let the flame of change die out!"
The flame that did not die
After years of hard work, Sapna had become a successful lawyer. Her first case was related to women's rights and child marriage. The faces of every girl in the village flashed before her eyes. She decided that she had to go to the place where her battle had begun—Pratapgarh!
The village was still the same, but this time there was something different in the air. Her hard work had not gone in vain. Now the girls were going to school, Sunita had become a nurse and Ravi a social worker. But a lot was yet to change.
Sapna opened a "Mahila Shiksha Kendra" in the village, where poor girls were taught for free. Slowly, the winds of change began to pick up. The society that had once rejected her, now began to respect her.
Fulfilment of unfulfilled hopes
Today, every girl in Sapna's village goes to school with a book. She was successful in breaking the chains of society.
When Sarpanch Dharampal Singh's granddaughter started going to school, he himself came to Sapna and said—
"We were wrong. Daughters are not meant only for the kitchen, but for the future of the country!"
Sapna smiled. She knew that her unfulfilled hopes had now been fulfilled.
"If one girl can bring about change, why can't the whole society?”
