If you are not yet fully in the autumn spirit or simply want to increase it, these ten activities will surely put you into a cozy, autumnal mood.

Let's start with this activity:

10. Go stargazing

Enjoy crisp autumn nights by finding a dark spot and a clear sky to watch the stars.

Whether on your balcony or in your garden, stargazing can be just as enchanting, offering a peaceful moment of beauty and wonder with the night sky right from the comfort of your home.

Here are a few tips:

Bring some patience -and maybe a blanket-

Stargazing is a peaceful activity, so settle in, relax, and enjoy the vastness above. Bring a warm blanket and some tea or cocoa, to enhance this peaceful and uplifting experience.

Look out for shooting stars or meteor showers

Check if there’s a meteor shower expected. Autumn has a few well-known ones like the Orionids in October and the Leonids in November.

As for shooting stars, they occur spontaneously so you can always hope to view some.

All in all, stargazing on a clear autumn night can be a wonderful activity, and with the right preparations, you can make it a magical experience.

9. Decorate your home

Embrace the season with autumn-themed decor, creating a welcoming atmosphere in your home.

As the weather gets cooler, it is encouraging you to create a warm, inviting nest.

Evokes creativity

Autumn’s colors and textures inspire unique designs, allowing you to get creative and personalize your handmade decorations.

Gather natural materials

Creating autumnal decorations with natural materials is such a beautiful, hands-on way to bring the season indoors.

Be it wreaths, candles, acorns, and pinecones, or just a simple garland made of leaves, with only a few natural items you can transform your home and make it a cozy, comfortable refuge.

Next on the list is a crisp and scenic experience many love:

8. Have a picnic

Pack a cozy meal and enjoy it in nature, viewing all of the beautiful colors of autumn.

Picnic location

Look for parks with beautiful autumn colors, wooded areas, meadows, or even a lake nearby.

Comfortable blanket

Use a thick, cozy blanket to sit on and maybe a few cushions for added comfort.

Seasonal food and treats

Consider packing autumn favorites like pies, cinnamon rolls, apple slices with caramel, and some hot chocolate or tea.

Leave no trace

Bring trash bags for your waste and clean up the area as you found it, or leave it in even better condition than it was before you arrived.

When the weather is mild and you find a nice spot to enjoy your seasonal treats, an autumnal picnic can be a beautiful activity to do this season.

7. Go birdwatching

Birdwatching in autumn can be a rewarding experience, giving you a chance to observe migratory birds that are passing through during this time or to look for local species preparing for the cold time of winter.

Know migration patterns

Research which birds migrate through your area during autumn. Common migrants include warblers, sparrows, and waterfowl.

Choose the right time

Early morning and late afternoon are often the best times to spot birds, as they are more active during these cooler parts of the day.

Use a good pair of binoculars

They make it easier to observe distant flocks, treetop perches, and fast-flying species, bringing their colors and behaviours into clear focus.

Be quiet and patient

Approach birdwatching with a quiet demeanor. Move slowly and avoid sudden movements to prevent scaring birds away. Patience is key!

Altogether, birdwatching is a very relaxing and peaceful activity to connect with nature in the autumn months.

6. Light a fire

Lighting a fire, whether in your home's fireplace or a campfire outside, is a warming, beautiful experience in autumn.

The advantages of that:

Warmth and comfort

As temperatures start to drop, a fire provides natural warmth and can make both indoor and outdoor spaces more inviting and comfortable.

Social gathering point

Fire is a natural gathering point, bringing people together to chat, tell stories, or enjoy a meal.

Seasonal atmosphere

A fire adds a seasonal touch that perfectly complements autumn’s cozy mood.

Whether it’s a bonfire under the stars or a crackling indoor fireplace, lighting a warming fire helps you to make the most of this wonderful season.

The following activity is very enjoyable, no matter if you’re trying it for the first time, or picking the hobby up again:

5. Try your hand at knitting or crocheting

Starting a new, industrious hobby such as knitting or crocheting is a perfect way to embrace the cozy feeling of the season, making it a pleasant pastime for this autumn.

Some advice:

Choose simple patterns

Start with easy patterns that use basic stitches and fewer rows to help you get the hang of things.

Use videos or online tutorials

These are extremely helpful, especially for visual learners. There are thousands of beginner tutorials available for both knitting and crocheting.

Take your time

It’s normal to make mistakes as a beginner! Be patient and don’t lose hope if you have to unravel your work and try again.

The beautiful season invites warmth and comfort, and this kind of needlework provides the perfect way to embrace that coziness.

Many people will surely love the next activity, especially the bookworms among you:

4. Visit your local bookstore

Going to a local bookstore in autumn is one of those simple pleasures that bring lots of benefits and joy to so many.

Atmosphere and ambiance

Especially in autumn, bookstores create a warm and inviting atmosphere. With cooler weather outside, stepping into a bookstore feels very comforting, and the smell of paper mixed with the scent of wood can be a sensory delight.

Seasonal inspiration

Autumn is perfect for cozy, atmospheric reads. Many bookstores create seasonal displays featuring mysteries, historical fiction, and heartwarming tales that capture the autumn vibe, helping you find the perfect autumnal feeling.

An autumn trip to your local bookstore is more than just buying books; it’s about connecting with the community, discovering stories, and cherishing a seasonal experience.

Whether you leave with a stack of new books or simply enjoy browsing, the experience itself is pure joy.

Top three!

3. Bake seasonal treats

Try your skills at baking pies, cookies, or other autumn-inspired goods. Baking seasonal treats in autumn is one of the best ways to enjoy and fully embrace the warm vibes of the season.

Here’s why it’s such a great activity:

Autumnal flavors and ingredients

Autumn brings a palette of flavors that are rich and tasty. Ingredients like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and pumpkin bring warmth to the kitchen and make seasonal treats extra special.

Fresh produce

Autumn is harvest season for apples, pumpkins, pears, and other goods, so it’s the perfect time to use these fresh ingredients at their peak.

A Cozy, inviting home

On a chilly autumn day, baking keeps the kitchen warm, filling your home with the unmistakable warm scents of cinnamon, vanilla, and freshly baked goods, creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

In summary, baking is an enjoyable way to make your home feel more autumnal and welcoming and to enjoy the season’s sweet taste.

2. Take a walk in the autumnal nature

Taking a walk in nature is a wonderful way to experience the beauty and tranquility of the season.

The beauty of nature

Autumn is one of the most visually striking times of the year. The changing leaves paint a vibrant landscape of red, yellow, and brown, making every walk a colorful experience in the crisp, golden light.

Time to reflect

Autumn’s peaceful atmosphere is perfect for reflection, offering a chance to unwind, clear your mind, and embrace the season’s themes of change and renewal.

Sensory experience

The crisp air and earthy scent of fallen leaves create a refreshing atmosphere while crunching leaves, rustling branches, and distant bird calls invite you to cherish the season with all your senses.

Taking a walk in autumn is a lovely activity, filled with colorful leaves and cool, refreshing air.

It's the perfect time to enjoy nature’s beauty!

1. Read a book in a cozy corner

Having a read in a warm book nook, particularly in the colder months is one of life’s simplest yet among the most beautiful pleasures, putting you into a warm, autumnal vibe.

Atmosphere

Reading a book whilst you're wrapped in a blanket or sitting by a window with rain or a storm outside enhances the seasonal atmosphere, making you feel cozy and at home.

Quiet, reflective time

Reading lets you slow down and be present. A cozy reading corner becomes a sanctuary to focus on each page and to immerse yourself in the story without interruptions.

Whether you’re reading a gripping novel, a comforting classic, or an inspiring non-fiction book, the experience of a cozy reading session makes it something to look forward to day by day.

Every turn of the page lets the world fade away and makes each reading hour a small, treasured gift.

That was the list of ten beautiful activities to do this autumn.

They let you enjoy nature’s beauty, boost physical and mental health, and bond with family through outdoor adventures.

The cool weather is ideal for birdwatching, cozy reading sessions, and baking, putting you into the warm, cozy mood of the season.

Thank you for reading!

Beautiful list of all the splendid fall hobbies I can do this year😻 My absolute favorite is the number four: Visiting my local bookstore. I try to go to ours as often as somehow possible, it is always worth it🤗 Thank you sooo much for listing all of these, I truly enjoyed to read this piece.

I love all of your ideas. I will have to try some before December hits. Autumn has always been a creative time of year for me.

Your cover photo is so beautiful 😍 ‘Bring some patience and a blanket’ a sweet realistic advice and reminder. Really cool names for the meteor showers in October and November: Orionids, same first letter of the month it happens in, until you get to November… Leonids lol. The cushions for the picnic was a great idea. I love birds 😍 I don’t have a favourite, I love them all. I have a tattoo of one, though I can’t say where it is 🤭 My dream is to take a photo of one close up without them flying away, or even to have one land on my hand. I use to knit and crochet, so I am so happy to see this as part of the list. I am not that great, I make many mistakes, but I’ve made a dress following a video before so that was rewarding. Books, we love them and we can’t do without them. Thank you for the list, it was so informative. The how to: was very nicely done, very thoughtful.

Your list made me homesick for Western PA for now I live in Louisiana and even now the temps are in the mid-80's and humid. Leaves go from green to a dull yellow and fall. I have done all the activities you mentioned and even learned to crochet. Love reading as well. Great work.
