The Old Tree and the Young Boy
A timeless bond between a lonely boy and a wise old tree that teaches him the true meaning of friendship and strength.

There is an old tree standing at the edge of a quiet village. It has been here for many decades, watching generations come and go. Its branches are strong but slightly bent with age, and its roots dig deep into the earth like old memories holding it firm.
In this village lives a young boy named Ali. He is curious about everything and loves to spend his days exploring nature. One day, while wandering near the fields, Ali comes across the old tree. Its huge trunk and wide shade fascinate him. He sits under it to rest, feeling its cool shadow protect him from the burning sun.
Every day, Ali visits the old tree. Sometimes he brings his books and reads aloud. Sometimes he just lies down on the soft grass beneath it, listening to the rustling of its leaves. He talks to the tree as if it can hear him, sharing his secrets, his dreams, and his little worries.
The tree, though silent, seems to understand. Its leaves dance gently in the wind, as if replying to Ali’s innocent words. Birds build nests in its branches, adding life to the old tree’s days. Squirrels run up and down its trunk, amusing Ali every time.
As the years pass, Ali grows up. He becomes busy with school and new friends. His visits to the tree become rare. The old tree waits patiently, its branches stretching out as if longing to embrace its little friend again.
One hot summer afternoon, Ali, now a teenager, returns to the tree. He looks troubled. Sitting under its shade, he sighs deeply and says, “Dear tree, I want to build a small house for my family, but we don’t have enough wood.”
The tree wants to help. It whispers through its leaves, “Take my branches, dear boy. Build your house. My branches will grow back in time.”
Ali cuts some of the old tree’s branches carefully and builds a small wooden hut for his parents. He is thankful but forgets to visit the tree again for many years.
Time keeps moving. The old tree now looks weaker without its branches, but it still stands tall, hoping Ali will return. Seasons change, storms come and go, but the tree remains rooted in its spot.
Years later, Ali, now a grown man with children of his own, comes back to the tree once again. This time he looks tired and worried. He sits beside the old trunk and whispers, “Dear tree, I need to earn more money for my children’s education. If only I could sell some wood.”
Though weak, the tree wants to help again. “Cut my trunk, dear friend. Sell the wood and do what you need to do.”
Ali does as the tree offers. He sells the wood and secures a better future for his family. The tree is now just a stump, no branches, no shade, but its heart is full of love for the boy who once rested in its shade.
Many years later, Ali, now an old man himself, comes back one last time. His hair is white, his back bent. He looks at the stump and tears fill his eyes. He sits down slowly, resting on the stump which once was a mighty tree.
“Thank you, my old friend,” he says in a trembling voice. “You gave me everything you had.”
The tree, though only a stump, feels happy. It can no longer give shade, fruit, or wood, but it still offers Ali a place to rest, just like old times.
Under the open sky, the old man and the old tree stump stay together in silence, sharing a bond that time can never break.
