The Clever Crow

Intelligence Solves Problems.

By Shahzad KhanPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

In a vast, sun-drenched forest, where tall trees swayed in the breeze and animals roamed freely, there lived a crow named Kavi. Unlike other crows, Kavi was known for his sharp mind and clever ideas. Whenever the animals faced a problem, they would turn to him, and he would always find a way to help.

One year, the summer was unusually harsh. The blazing sun had dried up the rivers and ponds, leaving the forest animals desperate for water. Birds flew long distances in search of a drink, and even the strongest of beasts grew weak from thirst. Kavi, too, felt his throat parched and his wings heavy.

"I must find water soon," he thought, scanning the horizon. With a determined flap of his wings, he soared into the sky, leaving the dry forest behind in search of a solution.

A Glimpse of Hope

After flying for what felt like hours, Kavi spotted a small village at the edge of the forest. Houses with clay roofs dotted the landscape, and villagers bustled about their daily chores. His keen eyes darted around, searching for any sign of water.

Then, he saw it—a clay pitcher placed near a house, likely left outside by the villagers. His heart leaped with hope! He swiftly descended and perched on the edge of the pitcher, peering inside.

But his excitement faded quickly. The pitcher had water, but only a little—just enough to shimmer at the very bottom. No matter how far he stretched his neck or how deep he dipped his beak, he couldn’t reach it.

A Moment of Frustration

Kavi hopped around the pitcher, flapping his wings in frustration. He tried tipping it over, but the pitcher was too heavy. He pecked at it, hoping to break it, but the clay was thick and unyielding.

For a moment, he considered giving up. "Maybe I should fly elsewhere," he thought. But then he remembered the other animals back in the forest, still suffering from thirst. If he couldn’t find water, how would they survive?

"No," he told himself firmly. "There must be a way."

A Brilliant Idea

As he paced around, his eyes fell on small pebbles scattered near the pitcher. A thought struck him—what if he could raise the water level?

Without wasting another moment, he picked up a pebble in his beak and dropped it into the pitcher. Plink! The pebble sank, and the water rippled slightly. He dropped another. Plonk! The water rose just a tiny bit.

Encouraged, Kavi worked tirelessly, flying back and forth, picking up pebbles and dropping them into the pitcher. One by one, the pebbles filled the bottom, displacing the water and making it rise higher and higher.

Success at Last!

After what seemed like an eternity, Kavi paused to check. The water had risen enough for him to reach it! His heart swelled with joy as he dipped his beak into the cool, refreshing water and drank deeply. The relief was immense—his parched throat was soothed, and his strength returned.

Just then, a little girl from the house stepped outside and gasped in amazement. She had been watching the crow’s efforts in silence.

"Look, Mother!" she called. "The crow is so clever! He filled the pitcher with stones to drink the water!"

Her family gathered around, marveling at Kavi’s intelligence. The villagers had never seen such a smart bird before.

A Lesson for All

With his thirst quenched, Kavi gave a satisfied caw and took flight, heading back to the forest. When he returned, the other animals gathered around him eagerly.

"Did you find water, Kavi?" they asked.

"Yes," he replied, "but it wasn’t easy." He then told them the story of the pitcher and the pebbles.

The animals listened in awe. The wise old tortoise nodded and said, "This teaches us an important lesson—where there is intelligence, there is always a way."

From that day on, the animals remembered Kavi’s cleverness. Whenever they faced a difficult situation, they would think carefully and find a solution instead of giving up.

The Moral of the Story

Kavi’s ingenuity reminds us that intelligence and persistence can overcome even the toughest challenges. In life, we often face problems that seem impossible at first, but with patience and creative thinking, we can find a way forward.

Moral: "No problem is too great when you use your mind. Intelligence, patience, and determination can solve even the most difficult challenges."
