What do Tesla cars and magic have in common? Many electric car enthusiasts would probably reply to this question with positive comments, detailed comparisons and reviews about the brand and the performance of its car models. Some may even say Teslas are magic.
However -I'm sorry to disappoint you, dear car lovers- this article has nothing to do with the automotive industry or Tesla itself.
If you have read any of my previous articles, you may know that I thrive writing about little things and experiences from my everyday life, which inspire my ramblings. For example, saving snails from being squished on the road, comparing myself to trees, and using fairytale archetypes as analogies for my life.
And this is not the exception!
This time, my brain created an analogy around a bunch of Teslas and magic, based on a simple anecdote:
So, I live with my partner, and a few weeks ago, our car started having lots of trouble (more than usual), so we were forced to face the inevitable truth: We need to get a new car. If you have been through this process before, maybe you can relate to the experience of investing many hours and thoughts in getting a new car.
Long story short, after a lot of browsing and discussing the advantages of fuel, gas, hybrid and electric cars, somehow Tesla became a regular topic in the conversation (not that I would buy one -or can afford one in any case- but it initiated an interesting discussion). Then, something crazy began to happen:
I started seeing Teslas EVERYWHERE!
I mean it. I have never seen so many Teslas in my entire life! Let alone in the past few months, and in the same area where I have lived for 5 years.
Just today, I saw around seven Teslas on the road in the course of one hour. All of these, within a radius where I had not even seen ONE Tesla before.
What happened? Was there a Tesla infestation in my small, home city overnight? Absolutely not. The cars (most of them, anyway) were probably already there. I just didn't perceive them at all! In a way, I was blind to them.
But, what is the point of sharing this anecdote?
What on Earth do Teslas and magic have in common?
In a nutshell, that you'll see A LOT of them both if you have been primed for them and your brain is in a receptive state. The same as with ANYTHING in this world.
'Priming' is a term from psychology, commonly used in marketing, where exposing people to certain stimuli can influence their subsequent thoughts, behaviors, or perceptions without them being consciously aware of it.
Essentially, what we perceive or think about will affect the likeliness and frequency with which we will find, identify and associate with similar things later on. Whether it's a car brand or more important things.
All this to say: In the same way that your mind might be primed to see Teslas everywhere after you have talked about them for several days, you will always be drawn to find that which is already in your mind (consciously and unconsciously). Whether it is something positive or negative.
If you are open to seeing the magic, you will find it (or, maybe, it will find you). If you are focusing on things to complain about, you will find them too. If your mind is full of problems, you will spot them quickly, and so will be the case if you are primed to discover solutions.
In the opposite case, you might miss good things if you are too locked up in your head, distracted, and predisposed to see other, less pleasant things.
Life is so short! So, why not prime our minds and our consciousness to find the beautiful things that we love and enjoy in life?
Maybe, for you, it means spotting something you like or that sparks your interest. Maybe it is enjoying the sight of birds flying and gathering in the trees every evening when you didn't pay attention before. Maybe it is noticing the beauty of autumn leaves falling. Maybe it is smelling the rich scent of a fragrance when someone walks past you.
There is an infinity of beautiful things to perceive!
I choose MAGIC! And you?

Note: This article is in no way endorsing Tesla (also, I'm not a big fan of Elon Musk or the company, but that's something for another article).
