SuperPowers
What would you choose and what does that say about you?
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I remember getting asked this question as a kid, and my answer was always the same, to read minds.
I have always been fascinated with how the mind works. So, I always thought reading others' minds would help me understand how the mind works overall. I was also fascinated to see how other people saw the world and saw me.
Do other people see colors the same as I do?
Do other people see nature the same way I do?
Do other people see me the same way I do?
I was always so curious about this as a child, so of course, reading minds would be my favorite superpower. I think because every person is so unique, that is why I was so drawn to this idea of really looking through another's perspective. There's no way anyone else thinks and sees things exactly as I do. That is such an amazing concept that I have always wanted to explore.
Obviously, there are other ways to understand the mind, but my strengths are definitely within the writing, literature, and editing realm. Unfortunately, I am not adept at the science side of life. So, as a child (and adult), this was the best option.
My peers would say invisibility is the best, being able to fly, and even extreme strength. I would always get questioned about my choice. But when you think about it. How cool and insightful would it be to be able to read minds? You could anticipate your opponent's every move. You could put plots that were just thoughts down before anything even happens. It is the ultimate power to have in my mind.
As I have gotten older, I think about this question again, and my answer is still the same. Reading minds would be the coolest insight into how the mind works. But, I also believe that the main reason I wanted this and I'm so interested in this is because I want other people to try and understand me. If I could see how others saw me and how they reacted, I could help them understand my ideas, thoughts, reactions, etc., by changing my approach. I honestly just wanted to be more approachable.
Being the sensitive person that I am, I have always been overly aware of my surroundings. Sometimes that makes me withdrawn and isolated because too much energy is going on around me. If I could understand that energy, I thought I could react differently towards others. Friends were never my strong suit, so any help was a win for me.
My sensitivity includes how others are reacting and feeling around me. Sometimes it is called being empathic, and other times it is just my anxiety and ADHD heightening my senses. In other words, I can already read other people's feelings, so understanding their thoughts and perception behind those would be full circle for me.
To wrap up my mini-brain scramble here, I find it amazing and enlightening that my younger self realized how in tune I was with those around me before my current self realized what was happening. That simple question, if you could have any superpower, what would it be, goes so much deeper than we realize.
This idea makes me think that the most simple questions in life can open up a path to our greatest desires. We should all take a step back and think about our gut reactions to the simple questions we encounter each day. Then, maybe we can figure out our passion or path in life years before it happens. Change our paths in a direction our future selves would tell us to take before making a mistake and finding the same outcome.
For myself, I will be taking a deeper look at the simple questions in life and listening to my inner self in those answers I give. Maybe this will help me find my purpose in this life.
What superpower would you choose, and what does that mean for your life?
