Substack has quickly become one of the most popular platforms for independent writers, offering an easy and powerful way to build a direct relationship with an audience.

Whether you're an experienced journalist or a hobbyist sharing your thoughts, Substack allows you to create, publish, and monetize your content with minimal barriers to entry. Unlike traditional publishing platforms, Substack empowers writers by providing full creative control and a built-in email distribution system, which ensures your work reaches readers directly.

Its subscription model also enables you to earn a sustainable income while maintaining the freedom to write about what matters most to you. With a growing community of diverse voices and innovative tools at your disposal, Substack is proving to be a game-changer in the world of digital publishing.

Substack is one of the best platforms if you’re considering monetizing your newsletter. With paid subscriptions just a toggle away, it’s tempting to lean into the business side of writing online.

But after thinking long and hard, here’s my honest opinion — Substack is not for everyone!

Today’s article covers: 👇

📌 Substack Is Not For Everyone

📌 I’ll Never Monetize My Substack

📌 Why I’ll Still Keep Nurturing My Substack

Substack Is Not For Everyone

Substack is not for everyone, and that is okay. Unlike Medium, where you can publish a story and let the platform do some heavy lifting through reads and distribution, Substack asks more of you.

When you turn on paid subscriptions, you are not just writing — you’re making promises.

Think about it —

▶ Exclusive content

▶ Regular newsletters

▶ Bonus threads

▶ Community engagement, and the like…

All that requires extra time, effort, and consistency!

On Substack — you are not just a writer; 👇

You are a creator, a curator, and often, a one-person media brand. And that kind of commitment?

It is not for everyone!

I’ll Never Monetize My Substack

Substack is a great platform, but not if you don’t have the time to fulfill the promises that come with paid subscriptions.

If monetizing Substack worked like it does on Medium, I’d probably have gone for it by now. But Substack asks for more than just your writing — it asks for YOU.

If it were only about content, I’d happily give it my words. But it is not.

It’s about time, energy, presence. And honestly? Life is full. I can’t give myself to Substack the way it demands.

Why I’ll Still Keep Nurturing My Substack

For the following top 3 reasons: 👇

👉 To satisfy my Passion for Writing

👉 To keep my Online Presence

👉 To build my Following and Community

Substack has always felt like my dream spot to show up and share my voice — a little corner of the internet where the spotlight feels just right.

So, to anyone wondering why my Substack will always be free:

Writing, sharing, and connecting don’t always have to come with a price tag. Sometimes, the best things are the ones that are just for the love of it.

If you’re with me, stick around. I’ve got plenty to share on Substack — and the best part? It is all free.

💬 Let me know what you think in the comments.

❓ Do you agree that Substack requires more than just writing?

❓ Do you think it’s a missed opportunity if I’m not monetizing it?
