Success is a diverse concept and one that remains distinct to each individual. Defining what it means to you and developing long-term goals becomes a vital step towards achieving happiness. At the same time, you must also be willing to make lifestyle changes and re-evaluate your entire outlook in life. Personal habits and traits that tend to drive success include:

1. Positive Attitude

Given the factors that influence your chance of achieving success, it is essential that you take control of your outlook and use positivity as a way of identifying opportunities. Positivity is captivating; if you radiate a positive attitude, people will feel the need to gravitate toward you, which can only work to your advantage. If you are not naturally optimistic, work on cultivating mindfulness, gratitude, and positive self-talk.

2. Personal Self-Care

Most people take better care of their cars than their bodies, and bodies are what powers brains. If you want to function at your best, you need to take good care of yourself. This includes eating well-balanced meals, staying active, tending to your hygiene, learning to manage stress, and managing your sleep schedule.

3. Listen to Constructive Criticism and the Opinion of Others

While positive feedback can improve your self-esteem and motivate you to achieve more, your ability to accept constructive criticism will empower you. This feedback highlights areas in which you need to enhance rather than reaffirm your strengths as an individual. Your weaknesses, in return, can then be targeted through training and development, which will empower you as a more robust and well-versed individual.

4. Being Organized

This is easier said than done for some people, but almost all successful people credit organization as one of their keys to success. Being organized means much more than having a clear desk (although, yes, that does matter!). It also means planning, sticking to a schedule, setting priorities, and establishing long- and short-term goals. Planning and preparation are so important that many teachers' unions insist that teachers get daily "planning periods" to excel at their jobs.

5. Taking action

Having a solid plan is crucial, but it takes action to make a goal become a reality. One of the biggest obstacles to long-term success is complacency. Successful people are willing to take action. That doesn't mean charging ahead blindly and recklessly, but it does mean that success revolves around a "just do it" attitude.

6. Reading

Successful people read for knowledge, of course, but they also read for pleasure, insight, and inspiration. Reading keeps the brain active, and active brains are much more likely to come up with and follow through on winning ideas. If you want to be successful in your industry, staying up to date with the latest trends and understanding the insides and outs is the key. People who read stay informed, have a larger and deeper understanding of the world around them and have less trouble connecting information into a system. Moreover, they are eager to expand their mindset and area of expertise and are keen to learn something new every day.

7. Networking

Success breeds success, and successful people want to spend time with other successful people. It's exciting and inspiring to celebrate each other's victories, and having a network of leaders in different fields can only be a good thing. Networking also opens up opportunities for collaboration with other successful people.

Rome was not built in a day and the road towards success is not an easy one. Instilling some of these habits may help you achieve balance and inner peace while moving closer to achieving your goals and living the life you want.
