Simple Ways to Feel Like Your Best Self

Start living the life you want now.

By Paisley HansenPublished 7 years ago 3 min read

You may have noticed that you have some work to do on your personal self or maybe you are feeling stuck in your career. Both of these feelings are totally normal and it is a good wake up call when you are aware of what you are missing in your life. Sometimes self-development isn’t as hard as we often times think it is. You don’t have to have some drastic, life-changing experience to become better. It often starts with just taking simple steps to being better every day.

To combat these feelings and to improve yourself here are 4 different things you can do:

Start reading more often.

Just because you read a lot does not mean that you have to have a bunch of books in your house. With the internet there are several different ways you can get reading materials.

The first option you can use if you do not enjoy the traditional paperback book is to get a Kindle or other electronic reading device. This way you can have access to a lot of different books without having to have a physical copy of them.

Another option for reading is audio books. When you are at work you can just plug your earbuds in and listen to different books. This can be a great option if you struggle with reading off of a screen or page.

Go the extra mile at work.

If you love your job and want to keep that career path, you should really do the best job that you can do. Even if you don’t love the company you work for, you still need to put in your best work so you can grow and accomplish more. Try to go to work with a positive attitude and with the desire to learn. You will notice that you will start to do well at your job and maybe even start to like where you are. You may even see success as your superiors start to notice your hard work.

If your company offers service awards you should definitely strive to become your personal best. Having friendly competition with other coworkers and colleagues can help you, as well as them, to do better at your jobs and possibly help everyone learn.

Rediscover your hobbies and passions.

If you played an instrument in high school or enjoyed something when you are younger, why not try and pick it back up? You could come up with a lot of reasons to not do it, but if you do actually start it again you can accomplish a lot while developing yourself. You may feel a little rusty at first but with some patience and effort you can become better than you were before.

Take classes.

If you do not do well in the traditional lecture hall you are not alone! Internet advancements have made it possible to learn things online so you do not have to sit in a desk for hours on end while hoping you made it to class on time.

There are different resources such as Skillshare or Udemy that let you learn at your own pace. If you are more of a hands-on, monkey-see-monkey-do person you may want to check out different videos on the internet that show you how to develop different skills.

You do not have to go back to college and take another 4 plus years to learn a new skill or better yourself. What is the best thing that you have done for yourself in your lifetime? Be sure to share this with a friend who is making some major life changes!
