Reason First: This Week In Good Black News
Shaq Pays It Forward, Michael Jordan Supports Brain Health, A Texas Legend Gets Her Flowers, And Chadwick Boseman Is Honored Posthumously From surprise scholarships to cultural immortality, here are four stories that spotlight Black excellence, philanthropy, and legacy.

This is an experiment. While bad news says “if it bleeds, it leads,” good news is often treated like an orphan. Forgive the mixed metaphor. So from retired National Basketball Association (NBA) players of great prominence, one arguably the greatest center of all time and the one hailed to be the best ever basketball player; and a woman given a laurel as a ranger in Texas; and a late actor finally getting a posthumous recognition on the Hollywood Walk of Fame may be trouble. Is it okay to talk about black news even when it is positive?

Shaquille O’Neal donated $20,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs. This gesture allowed Shaq to be a strong donor to good causes not out of altruism but justice. He felt that the group had held a special place in his mind. He looked at the leaders as custodians of the dollars and the young people who won an award to teens who went above and beyond the call of duty in their specific stand out positions.
His idealism for the B&GCs stems from his days attending the clubs in his youth. As a multi-millionaire, he has the ability to be selfish and donate to the organization that fostered his younger days. While he has not played basketball professionally in nearly two decades, Shaq has been busy with corporate America, showing up in numerous commercials.

With billions of dollars, Michael Jordan can donate selfishly to the research in brain health. $10 million permitted him to trade a portion of his earnings for research. He felt that it was in his own self-interest to care about more studies in the North Carolina area hospitals. Jordan already donated $17 million to the researchers. In his ability to offer dollars to these research centers, it’s particularly important to note the power Mr. Jordan wields with his wallet.
That’s the best aspect of all of this. He’s able to bring about chains because of his own egoistic exploits. Michael Jordan, who makes millions every day knows that he can deliver on the promise to be a conscientious individual bent on making his own world even better.

Dr. Christine A. Nix saw an inception into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. For her role as the first black woman Texas Rangers Division, the institution recognized her honor and good judgment through the years. Her rationality and selfishness brought about a change in the Texas complexion and gender during her storied career. This of course seemed past due but she championed the idea of making a difference with justice and stands for the protection of individual rights.
Chadwick Boseman’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame had finally been put in place. In a brief amount of time his fame burned brightly and then burned out by way of a cancer diagnosis. In his career, he showed fierceness, intelligence, and grace. In his death, he maintained the sensibility that he was a man of color with talent in America.

As a young, gifted, and black man, he made his presence known and embraced and exemplified greatness in his roles. When he had been tasked with working while still sick, he never let anyone know how much pain he was in at the moment. Repression didn’t play a part in this. He just showed his strength through the ravages of a terrible disease.
All of these black individuals have shown excellence on a scale that brings together the social fabrics that make up the tapestry of life. Whether retired ball players or a ranger with a doctorate, or a fallen actor, they all exhibited the greatness that comes with brainpower and the soul of action.
So will these stories be elevated or regelated based on the content of the character of these individuals? Let’s just say their actions speak volumes and for themselves.
