There's a quote by Eric Thomas “When you find your why, you find a way to make it happen”.

What’s your ‘why’ in life? What drives you to wake up in the morning and take on the day? What's your purpose?

We all feel like we have a purpose in life, even if that means living in the present and not chasing after goals. What we need are meaningful habits that match up to our purpose in life.

The quality of your life depends on the quality of your habits. Your habits will contribute to what you accomplish and the legacy that you leave behind. If you want to create a healthy work-life balance or develop greater self-awareness, this article is for you.

Well, while there are an infinite number of tips and tricks out there, this article is condensed into some useful habits that'll help you get started on your path.

Let us dive into habits that you should invest in for yourself to build a purpose-driven life.

Practice self-acceptance

There's no one else in the world quite like you, and that's a good thing! Embracing yourself - your flaws, and positive aspects, will help you create long-term change in your life.

Accept yourself and you'll stop worrying about what others think of you. If you can build up your confidence and self-love, you'll be unstoppable. A simple example is to stop comparing yourself to others and to avoid being negative.

Express gratitude

It's such a simple thing to be thankful for everything we have in life yet many refrain from doing this.

Just a simple act of being thankful every day, brings out positive emotions.

Here’s how:

  • Maintain a gratitude journal. First off, you must take the time to introspect on your day—not just rush through it. Then, mention what you feel blessed and thankful for on that particular day.
  • Set a timer on your watch or phone to go off at certain intervals. When the buzzer or timer goes off, take a deep breath and look at the things around you and count the things you can appreciate.

The key to this practice is to do it daily to see results. Whether you're a student, a homemaker, or an entrepreneur, you'll be able to see through the highs and lows of your life by learning to make gratitude a daily practice.

Prioritize your relationships

Make time for socializing and meeting friends.

This habit is very important to develop quality connections. Meeting a friend and socializing often helps boost your self-worth and happiness.

Human beings are wired to live in social groups for our safety and well-being as well as our mental health! Be around people who bring out the best in you.

You can also deliberately build connections to meet your professional and business goals. Look for communities in entrepreneurship, art, freelancing and other areas of interest.

You'll find plenty of Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, and even forums on Reddit that will help you learn new things and connect with the right people.

Spend time in nature.

This habit will bring a positive change mentally and physically. We are made to spend time in nature, not just our gadgets which sucks you into a rabbit hole of emotionally draining news.

Spending time with nature reduces feelings of stress, anger and boosts happiness.

Clear your mind, and let yourself breathe a little easier. The easiest way to do this is to start by growing food, flowers, and plants at home. You could also rent a cycle and go on nature's trail, enjoy the cool wind in your hair and immerse yourself in what mother nature has to offer.

Explore new things

Think of one thing that you always wanted to do and never did. There is always that one thing we regret not doing. So make a list of what you want to do and start executing it in baby steps.

For example, have you always wanted to start a business of your own? Then work towards it. But don't try to get everything done at once.

You may want to choose a business name this week. And then register your domain name the next. In this way, you'll grow slowly but steadily. And your new experiences will help you feel like you're living a purpose driven life.

Do productive things when in your best mood

This helps you execute the task faster and saves you time to take on another meaningful task or chore. Your achievements will be more noticeable and enduring. Choose the right time of the day for this, when you are most productive morning, mid-day, or night.

List out the things for which you will go the extra mile.

Doing this helps you be more efficient and do things that matter.

Create a list of all the things that would make your life better if they were done on a regular basis, then prioritize them, pick one, and focus on that one thing for a week.

Then pick another thing and do the same thing until you have all of them covered.

Did you know that Ben Franklin worked on developing his character this way? He created a list of 13 virtues that would make him a better person. He found that working on one virtue at a time with all his focus helped him grow better than trying to deal with all of them at once.

If you develop the habit of building one area of your life at a time, you'll soon become proficient.

Simplify your life

The stuff we keep around us weighs us down and keeps us from living a life that is driven by our own personal purpose.

When that clutter leaves, you'll be able to focus on what makes you tick, and on things that inspire you to keep going.

Get rid of the clutter in your life. The books, clothes, and mementos you don't need anymore. Your inbox will never be empty, but at least it won't be overflowing either.

I recommend reading Marie Kondo's book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

Work out in the morning

What you do early morning can impact how your entire day goes.

If you want to create the best possible outcomes for the day, you should start by exercising.

Start with a few minutes of exercise, say 15 minutes per day. Do something that Go on to increase the time and make sure this fits in your daily schedule. Your energy levels will be different for the rest of the day and you also live a longer healthier life.

Allow yourself to make mistakes

No one is born perfect, so be comfortable with making mistakes.

If there's one mistake you should be careful about, it's labelling mistakes as evidence of personal failure.

When you do that, you're allowing a few events to become the story of your life. But if you reframe how you view mistakes, then you can gain control of your life and learn from things that didn't go as planned.

We cannot control the things which happen to us. But we can control how we react to them. While you may feel that it’s difficult to pursue this on a regular basis, you can grow to deal with issues that crop up in more peaceful ways.

Conclusion

We often think that life is meaningful when we experience sudden and dramatic events. Or when we do things that are big and different, that we experience joy.

But it's not possible to jump from one big thing to the next every day of your life. We need moments of peace as well as steady action that take us forward. And to do this, you need to have habits that you apply in small ways everyday.

I've shared a number of purposeful habits that will make your life better. Start doing one thing differently every day and you'll soon see results compound over time.
