My Greatest Lesson

Healing.

By Myr. B Published 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

Emotions swirl around like a tornado within every person; a storm we were never prepared for.

Fight or flight is triggered, adrenaline is running, but we are not all programmed to react the same.

Some will run, some will hide, some will stay, some will fight, and some will shut down out of fear.

So how do you know which path to choose?

Simple. Every experience, every love, every lesson, leads you step by step through the journey to the final destination.

We are born to die-- there is no other purpose. We are a mere memory to the world. There are only so many breaths you get to take, only so many words you get to say, only so many people you get to love. One blink and life is gone. The thing is, we have time; time to live before we die. So why waste that time trying to create the idea of a perfect life when we can simply choose to enjoy each moment.

Life was never meant to be easy; happy moments come with sad, love comes with loss, pleasure comes with pain. Healing isn’t about getting rid of the darkness though. It is about learning to dance in the storm and find the light through the darkness. To me, one moment of light is worth any amount of darkness.

Emotions swirl around like a tornado within every person; a storm we allow to consume us.

No matter which path was bestowed upon us, we are always able to change the way. It will be a constant battle of which direction to go, but each decision will help complete the painting of our timeline.

The pieces of our puzzle begin to fall into place and create a story reel of what was. Our job is to learn to fill the masterpiece with as many moments as we can. We get to choose which memories will dance across our eye lids in those final moments.

We learn to control what we do, to listen instead of speaking, to understand before judging, and we learn to forgive but never forget.

Healing isn’t about getting rid of these emotions. It is about understanding them as well as those around us. It is about creating more moments worth remembering, so when the time comes we can say we lived.

Emotions swirl around like a tornado within every person; a storm we learned to survive.

Release the grudges you hold so dear to your heart as if they were a security blanket.

Let go of the bottled-up anger, threatening to shatter into a million pieces, wounding anyone within a close radius.

Free the hatred you entrap within your soul; for the darkness is weighing down and filling your lungs while you try to gasp for air.

Experience the negative emotions with the positive ones. They carry importance and value, acknowledge them. Then, once they have presented themselves before you, choose to relieve them of their duties, for they are no longer needed.

The greatest lesson I have learned, is we cause most of the pain we feel because of how we choose to react. We cannot control other people. We can, however, choose how we interpret what others do, and how much we let others affect us.

I think sometimes we forget in order for us to move on from something or someone, we must let go of the negative we were once associated with.

In order to heal, you must forgive, and in order to forgive, you must first understand what you don’t know.
